..I've just bought The Goldfinch today because Shaun recommended it but I haven't started reading it yet, I'll probably start it next week...if you read it as well and it's no good, we could maybe kill Shaun..?...

[seconds ammi's suggestion]

in fact, if you haven't read it, read 'The Secret History' by the same author (Donna Tartt) first... it's about a group of college friends taking classics and getting high and having orgies and.... MURDER :o

The Goldfinch is good too but it's a bit less dramatic (but I'm less than halfway through it), about a kid whose mum dies in a bomb explosion and his growing up experiences

Hmm, I'll look into Goldfinch and The Secret History. That Locke Lamora book sounds interesting but I can't really stand reading fantasy books. I've already read Hunger Games and Divergent just looks like a cheap cash in of it. I've always wanted to read Monte Cristo but i'm not in the mood for a classic atm.

Anything by Jack Ketchum if you like extreme horror. I am currently reading Ladies Night and it is fantastic.

It's about a chemical spill that turns women into crazy zombie-like sex pests.

Very gruesome so far.

..Also, what about the Dark Tower series, Dezzy..I think that Ben has read them and my son also did quite a while ago and I know that he couldn't put them down at the time..he became cut off from the world and totally absorbed in them...

Recommend
Epic Fantasy - "Homeland" by R. A. Salvatore ( Start of the Dark Elf Trilogy)
Fantasy/Horror - "The Painted Man" by Peter V. Brett (Start of the Demon Cycle)
Fantasy - "Edge of Destiny" by J. Robert King

Okay
Fantasy, Thriller, Young-adult fiction - "The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel: The Magician" by Michael Scott (Start of a Series)

I'm sure there's more but I just woke up and I can't think. I don't really know what genre you like but I've mostly read fantasy. :joker:

Oh you could also try "I am Number Four" by Pittacus Lore (Start of Lorien Legacies", there's a film of it but it's kinda crap. It's another Young Adult one though, it doesn't have particularly engaging language but it's quite modern and books are still coming out regularly.

Bad suggestions shall be judged.

Try The Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King (Or Under the Dome, also by Stephen King)
The Trilogy: The Fall etc. by Guillermo Del Toro
Any of John Connellys, but start with the first as they make better sense that way.
Andersonville by McKinley Kantor
Good reading.
