Just been looking at some of the comments regarding the lady who died after being accused of trolling,it's really unbelievably hypocritical of some people to call her a troll when they are posting stuff like this,https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheMadeleineMcCannControversy/
They are doing exactly what they said she was doing, but on reading some stuff,it seems she just had a different opinion to those who support The MCcanns,How can Sky News and the media call HER a troll, but comments about her are kept quiet? anyone have any thoughts on this?

This year alone she had sent 2,136 tweets and on some days she would send more than 50 messages attacking the McCanns’ behaviour, including their use of public donations and their decision to sue their critics.

What do you mean 'the Mc Cann thing'?

She may have done a lot... is her life now defined by one comment on twitter now.

What happened to freedom of speech?
As I said the other day there are lots of unanswered questions and that is bound to cause conspiracy theories with like minded people rightly or wrongly.

How are her family going to feel as innocents in all this at the online abuse?

There is freedom of speech and there is a vicious campaign of hate. The reporter was right to highlight her

50 tweets a a day about a poor dead girl and her parents?

It apparently wasn't one comment though, it was loads of comments every day and harassing somebody isn't freedom of speech. She was just a troll and it's hypocritical to defend her for her behavior yet deride other trolls for the same behavior.

They're all trolls, they're all in the wrong.

Well this woman's no longer on Twitter so why aren't you giving her detractors, that aren't harassing anyone in any way shape or form and just simply have 'a difference of opinion', the same leeway? That's truly hypocritical.

This woman is a troll, the people making fun of her death are trolls. They are one and the same and that doesn't make anything she did justifiable just because you agreed with her point of view.

Have you even read those comments about her? I guess not

The way I see it Kaz; is that, under the maxim; 'Innocent until Proven Guilty', Brenda Leyland's identity should never have been revealed to the public. If she was guilty of any crime she should have been charged, tried and then named if she had been found guilty.

Brenda Leyland may have been obsessive in the volume of tweets she made, but her tweets did not include threats of any kind to the McCanns or their children - unlike tweets by others. Therefore, she cannot be deemed to have been a 'danger' to the McCanns or to the general public, so revealing her identity could not be justified on the basis of being; 'in the public interest'.

I. myself, have changed my stance on the McCanns since reading certain posts on here, following the given 'links', and indulging in further reading on the whole 'McCann' affair. I now believe that;'something' is indeed 'rotten in the state of Denmark.', and have suppressed various emotions as a result.

I have not reacted by 'trolling' the McCann's online, but not everyone reacts to a given stimuli in the same manner, and - as yet - we do not know what Mrs Leyland's state of mind was at the time she carried out this trolling; was she suffering from mental illness? Depression? -- Did she lose a child by miscarriage in her past? Did she want other children but was unable? We just don't know whether she had mitigating circumstances for what she did.

What I do know, is, that this poor woman and her family deserve sympathy, not the vile tirades and inhumane bile which these vile, hypocritical troller's are spewing out online and elsewhere.

Finally, I used to have immense sympathy for the McCann's, especially Kate - and though I am not accusing them of anything - I have just looked at their photos and Brenda Leyland's, and my sympathy is all for Brenda.

I actually don't like looking at Kate McCann any more.

The lady who killed herself may have been wrong to tweet, but then as has been said she wasn't directing the tweets at a McCann account, so who then was she trolling? The people subscribed to her twitter? in which case there is a simple fix unwatch or whatever,

Are we saying there is a personal limit on number of tweets someone should post in a given day, if so what is that limit, is it legally enforceable etc etc :)

Now, Mr Brunt targeted the lady in front of millions of viewers trying to make a sensational story, and what happened, he got it, the lady killed herself. I know who should be facing the police questions.

As to these new twatter posters, well, the net sure does highlight that the world is full of a lot more unpleasant people than I ever thought it did. I find it all disgusting

Have a lot of sympathy for this woman, she was not a troll in the normal sense merely someone who passionately believed the McCann's were far more involved in this story than the mainstream press will ever report.

For her troubles she was publicly named and ridiculed, and clearly she had issues which meant this outing pushed her over the edge.

I wish more people would publicise the glaring inconsistencies in the official story.

She was stating an opinion that many people share, on a social media website which the Mccann's are not even a member of, so her opinions were being sent out into the world, not directly at the Mccanns.. that's just free speech.

Then people chastising her for those opinions is also just free speech.

She is perfectly entitled to her opinion and over 50 tweets a day is pretty OTT but she wrote them and clearly knew what she was doing so the backlash came at her own hands so to speak.

Yeah its free speech, but when it comes to people saying she should burn in hell and get brutally raped in every orifice, then it goes onto a different level.. The majority of the hate she got from it was when she was still alive and because of the article that was put out, which included her twitter handle, it was all personally directed at her, turning it into direct abuse, different from what she was doing herself.

Yes I understand what you are saying but at the end of the day she decided to do what she did, the actions of the other trolls stem from her actions.

Telling her to get raped is awful obviously but had she not been as demented as she was in her hate of the McCanns and tweeted some pretty horrific things herself nobody would have gone for her in the manner they did.

..I don't think there is any doubt that what Brenda Leyland did was wrong and a deplorable thing to do to anyone and she would have probably been prosecuted for it if she was mentally well enough to be...but a woman is dead, a family is devastated..and so the Twitter hate goes on ...Martin Brunt may not have foreseen that she would commit suicide but it was only ever going to bring more hate and more trolling by a public 'outing' and never going to bring anything other than negative/it couldn't not...I think he really does hold some responsibility for this....

Nedusa

It's only coincidental that she committed suicide not because she was publicly named due to her tweets. Far worse trolling of the McCanns goes on, why should this woman carry the can for all of this. No this poor woman's suicide has been linked to her tweeting but the reality is that it's just a sad coincidence and a news story as well.

As said it was not directed to the McCanns on their personal accounts but on a discussion page... how is that harassment?
It's them using the money, power and influence they have to silence those who do not for whatever reason believe their account of what happened in Portugal.

..is this something that we know for sure then, Nedusa..?..but even so, she was obviously not mentally healthy and it's still the irony of him 'outing' someone, rather than let the law deal with it ..for something she had been doing which showed disregard of the consequences and the hurt on people's lives by showing the same total disregard of any consequences on hers..because he knew very little about her life other than she was a McCann troll..and for me, this is just 'two wrongs don't make a right..'... he would know that at the very least, this would bring other trolls against her...if you 'fight fire with fire' all you get is lots more fire....

No we don't know this for sure Ammi, but like the receptionist who committed suicide after being lured into a phone scam, this woman must have had serious mental health issues to take her life over something that was at worst embarrassing to her.

Her comments did not constitute trolling and she would have faced no criminal or legal action as her words were in fact protected under "Free speech".

I am saddened the Press saw fit to "out" this woman and to label her as a vicious troll.

And all the while the McCanns look on and continue receiving thousands of pounds from the Press for their stories of continuing torment.

Utter rubbish....why can no one see that this story needs breaking open and the public need to realise there is far more going on than just the disappearance of a little girl all those years ago.
