View Full Version : Groups are awful - but most successful?

Groups are always awful and I wish they'd get rid of the category, but I know they won't because the show's biggest successes have come from the group category (One Direction, Little Mix, JLS).

I wish these groups had never been successful, because the groups are the worst category year after year and I wished they'd just scrap it and although more acts from live shows from the other 3 categories.

JLS was successful but they ended up being flops

it's only 1D and LM that are still successful

Honestly I agree, in general I never support the groups, well...apart from Little Mix, Kandy Rain and Hope.

They have produced some of the most populat acts post show, though.

Little Mix, One Direction, Union J, JLS, G4 and even Journey South did well.

Same Difference had 2 albums too I think and maybe 2 or 3 singles.

I disagree but I get where you're coming from. They throw together so many solo artists into a group with no real consideration for what they're actually doing, they've only got it right twice - One Direction and Little Mix. I'd argue the former were successful because there was a gap in the market and they could have been anyone; the latter I think were successful because Tulisa really focused on them and they worked very hard and well together as a team and fortunately gelled well as a group. I wish they'd put through groups who auditioned as groups instead of playing transfer window with different solo artists and putting strangers together and hoping something sticks, it's just annoying. I'm a huge fan of pop groups, I love vocal harmonies and there have been a few groups I've really liked on the X Factor - JLS were of course the best group to audition and make it through the live shows - but there is a lot of dross inflicted on us by the producers. Perhaps they do that to pad out the shows and create fodder for early eliminations, I don't know.

I always find it hard to support groups (there's usually one member I'm not so keen on or something) which is why I'm really impressed with only the young as I like them all . it brings some variety to the show as well so I'm all for the category staying, it would be boring with soloists only.

JLS were still successful, just because they disbanded doesn't mean they are flops.

The Groups category exists purely for shallow reasons, that's why they are the most successful post show as well because horny teen boys and girls will buy their Music because they at least fancy one member in the individual group.

I do like 3 girls in Little Mix though, but I definitely couldn't listen to their Music.

They all follow in the footsteps of One True Voice

But every so often there's a Girls Aloud in the midst and that's what makes the groups category worthwhile IMO. A lot of the time they just pap the groups off onto Louis Walsh who only knows how to manufacture boy bands in a very specific way which is why JLS are his most successful act throughout his stint on the show; he doesn't know what to do with girl groups or certain types of boy bands; he's only good with easy choreography involving stools and air grabs and everyone wearing white. Still, I think JLS, One Direction and Little Mix more than make up for all the dross we've had over the years.

One Direction was dross on the show though, literally surviving off late time slots, big song choices, and horny teenage girls, and even then they never topped or even came 2nd in a single vote.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion they were just the lucky people in the right place at the right time; as opposed to Little Mix who I genuinely believe had natural chemistry that you can't force to happen.

I think that Little Mix have been quite lucky after the show as well tbf, having The Saturdays being your nearest rival to the top spot of the girlbands is probably most girl groups dreams, especially for up and coming ones.

i agree and i actually was shocked a band actually won it one year! how the hell did that happen :conf: because out of all the categories the groups always seem the weakest and having louis mentor them this year just makes it even worse :bored: his choices are silly. for me jls were the best band in the past . and now i think the unique band is only the young . i can see why blonde electric would be popular aswell in a way but they're irritating but atleast they can hold a tune unlike Jedward!!who were the worst thing to ever come out of xfactor!!!

Nah, I like having the groups category, gives it a new dynamic that American Idol and The Voice don't have.
