Ant McPartlin was hiding a secret heartache when he presented last night’s I’m A Celebrity – his gran had just died.
The brave TV presenter was in turmoil about going on with the show after his 85-year-old gran Kathleen Clarke, had a fatal heart attack on Friday.
Leaving would have meant his TV partner Dec Donnelly presenting the new series from Australia on his own.
A friend of Ant told The Sun: “He spent hours on the phone discussing what to do. He was extremely close to his gran, as she helped bring him up in Newcastle.”
Despite his loss, Ant was on fine form last night, and viewers would never have been able to tell that something might be up.
The friend added: “He has relatives in Australia and will spend the day of the funeral with them.”
