We have a bit of an urban fox problem where I live, what would be the best humane way of treating it?
I'm going to contact the council as they are getting fat too tame.

( serious question, genuine responses only please)

Find out the source of their feeding and put a stop to it, someone must be feeding them or leaving out food that they can easily get to.

You can buy some sort of repellents too I think, to scare them off, they mark their territory so it must make them think it's already marked by another group of foxes or something like that?

We have wheelie bins so wouldn't think they could get in but they must be coming for something like you say, will ask about.
Will look into the repellents, big dogs aren't enough of a repellant that's for sure you would think the scent of my dog would deter them but nooooo.
Duke thinks their droppings are delish too :yuk:

Could someone be feeding it in secret?

Couple of months ago on Jeremy Vine they had a guy who's makes a living as a 'fox sniper' in urban areas, could give him a call

Indeed, we have not established what the issue is anyway.

there is a fox over population problem, and as their numbers grow the more they will need to go in to populated areas to get food. I hate them, they are a pest, their population needs to be controlled.

they need to be killed off, there are too many... (Not in a way where they get chased, that's awful... but farmers need to be able to keep their sheep/chickens etc safe, cause foxes are the worst killers)

and this is coming from someone who loves foxes

Well I love foxes and I don't think they are vermin,IF farmers spent a bit of money building secure pens and runs for their chickens etc, foxes wouldn't be able to get them,Foxes are here for a reason as are badgers,so sorry Kizzy keep the animals and cull the daft people feeding them:hehe:

Completely agree Kaz, humans should not be feeding foxes (my aunty chucks anything out for them, this includes chicken carcass, stale cake/bread, left over scraps of food)

They were a novelty for a long time and you rarely saw one, but now they are strolling round in broad daylight. There's a wooded area near me with deer and I'm worried about the foxes bringing lyme disease carrying ticks :worry:

We're frightened to put our cats out at night because we've seen a fox lurking around down the road a couple of times. I'm not sure whether or not they'd even attack a cat? We used to let them out whenever, and nothing bad happened other than other cat fights  but there've been a handful of cats go missing in the neighborhood.

Yeah, 4 of our cats seem like they'd be able to hold their own in a fight... one of them's even brought us a dead seagull before :joker: I don't even want to know how. But one of them was definitely the 'runt' of her litter, she still has this 'pico' thing (is it pico or pica?) where she sucks on blankets and anything furry because she thinks it's her mum I guess, even though she's 3 now, and I can't imagine she'd stand much chance... who knows, with five of them altogether, maybe they could gang up on the fox :flutter:

(yes I know five cats is pathetic, but it's not my fault, there were only three before I went off to uni and stopped being able to say 'no' to my mum's ideas)

deffo on the rise - but seen as we all insist of having our food waste out in the street to be collected - can you blame them that we are enticing them out with the smells.
