They open the tooth up and then put long files down the tooth into the root to remove the nerve/pulp which has gotten infected and caused an abscess, the removal of the nerve ensures there should be no more abscess/pain, it's a lengthy process and very costly but it is aesthetically better to keep all your teeth than to start having them removed, as removal of teeth causes food traps and then decay and then the other teeth end up needing treatment......i used to be a dental nurse.......boring job:sleep:

I've had one.....I'm weird with the dentist though, I had that much painful work done as a kid that nothing bothers me about the dentist. I'd rather have a root canal than my eyes tested...

I'm terrible when they do that puff of air into the eye, my eye blinks as i anticipate the puff of air, and i can see the optician getting frustrated with me as i jump about in the chair:laugh:

Then i have to work really hard not to start giggling as they get really close when they look into my eye, once i was giggling so much i ended up in hysterics, and they had to half do my eye examination. i never went back to that one again:laugh:

I embarrass myself at the opticians every time they do the puff of air.

For some strange reason I blink and move my head every time as though I'm about to be shot. The woman is pissed off with me every single time.

Yes a couple of times and yes its sore - i seem to recall the dentist having to lean her knee on my chest to get purchase

but not as sore as an abscess

It doesn't tickle, but the alternative is worse than the treatment. They use quite fine drills to get into the root of the tooth, and while he was drilling there was a click, the drill stopped, everything went quiet while the nurse and dentist locked eyes with each other LOL... the end of the drill had broken, and it's still in there! Probably the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me at the dentist.
