Mmmm. I will see if I can figure out how to put photos on here.

Believe it or not I started sculpting as a kid using ordinary knives, forks and ordinary hand tools on large blocks of hard household 'scrubbing' soap. As I got older I graduated to Soapstone and wood then sometimes different types of stone.

I also use clay and have actually sold some stuff to friends and on market stalls (craft fairs) but - as with all things - life 'got in the way - and I only sculpt occasionally now, though I have just mended a damaged vintage cherub ceiling fitting by sculpting 2 new very detailed wings in 'DAS air-hardening clay' which I had never used before but was pleased with.

I am glad that you are into art because it is so rewarding. I will get some stuff on here for you to look at. :wavey:

I doodle on paper and I illustrate in AI, PS and sometimes PSP (barely ever use that now though) I sell my vector clipart and I also design source files and photoshop actions for digital scrapbooker's and artists, basically I design the base products and they buy them and then build their own work on them.

I only do this part time now though because I work another job too.

Yeah its pretty addictive, it's mostly digital stuff I do now but I do still have a massive box of rl scraps and supplies that I dabble with every now and then.

And there is so much to learn as you say.

Yes, you definitely are an artist - a 'wind-up' artist. And an egotist because it's not everyone who puts a deposit on his own artwork. hehe:

Over the years I have sold hundreds and hundreds of paintings, average ones by folks who just like to paint. What amazes and fecks me off is that people think nothing of spending good time creating a relatively lovely landscape or nautical scene and then totally ruin it by scrawling their name in the corner rather than on the back.

The sheer arrogance of it is staggering, not to mention the anti-art sentiment

Its disgusting

I like to draw, paint (not so keen on oils, as they take too long to dry). A Gallery owner in Hamburg once said my naive paintings were 'wonderful' and that remark spurred me on to do more. I'm in awe of some of the realist artists and wish I could paint like that.
I also like to embroider, cross stitch and knit, all of which are creative and some of the ones I've seen are real works of art.
Who is your favourite painter? Mine are Gustav Klimt, Edward Hopper, Cornelius Escher. Although there are many artists I admire.

1. no one cares who you are
2. your painting is at best below average
3. why spend hours making a lovely landscape and then ruin it by scrawling your pathetic name in one corner as if you are Picasso?
4. write your stupid name on the back and while you are at it write what it is you painted and date it you dick

The amount of **** i have sold with ^^^ on it beggars belief

Its fantastic LaLa, its one of the most difficult mediums I think, so well done cant wait to see the final result .

Thanks so much both!

Thank you Ammi! Appreciate it. I'm doing a little bit each day on it, "slow and steady wins the race" as they say.

Bit more done - it's just fine tuning the "clown face" now and then it'll be onto the dreaded hair! :skull:

Yeah it is, well it is with pencil - I just find it really time consuming and difficult! However with this painting it's been surprisingly smooth and easy going in regards to hair... It's mostly mark making and with oils and layers you can get away with just plotting random tones/being a bit messy to achieve a somewhat hair-like texture. I've loved doing this painting surprisingly considering how much I was dreading it and was afraid to do an oil for years - already got two more planned, one of Grace Jones and one of Joni Mitchell, just some images I saw that I loved! Probably won't be doing them until January or after though!

The painting as of today:

1196855370066669570

More hair texture on the "clown" side, the ears and some more drips and what not and it'll be finished. Oh yeah and the white background needs going over too and when that's dry I can add some individual hairs/"whisps" both sides to emphasise the hair.

It's finished anyway! I was going to add some more hair details and other stuff but decided against, knowing me I'd do something to ruin it in the final stage so I've left it. Very happy with how it looks considering I've never used oils before nor have I ever done a painting of this scale before (or anything other than small watercolour paintings for that matter).

Haven’t even started sadly! Just not had the time at all. Hopefully in the coming weeks! :fc: Isolation might give me chance to do it! :hehe:

I don’t even know if it will be of Kobe now. Depends if I’m in the mood or not when the time comes but he’s definitely “on the list”. I’ve seen this amazing photo of Joni Mitchell that looks like a good challenge - it’s from a few years ago so she’s lovely and aged plus she’s smoking in it which would give me good practice at hands! Idk.

Love all the work posted here! So many different styles.

Oil Painting #2 is in motion:

1243759055811862529

All drawn up on the canvas here (20”x24” again) and then today I’ve toned it all with a weak solution of Burnt Umber and solvent to lock in the line work and add a fleshy tone to work from as a base (easier than working from bright white I find).

Once she’s fully dried out in the garden shed I’ll be painting away, hopefully in the next couple of days! Will keep me busy at least. Dreading it a bit now actually... :joker:

I started working up above the hands today and onto her left eye and cheek, very challenging trying to capture "age" properly but I'm taking my time and trying not to get too flustered. Art is a great distraction from everything right now - I recommend it if you've got some time and are feeling generally anxious about the current situation. Just sit, stick some music on and paint/draw/make something/anything.

Go to Imgur rusti its free ,upload it to there and it will give you a link to post it on here

Thanks Kaz...will give it a go tomorrow. It’s no masterpiece simply copying a print. Considering I haven’t put pen to pater for 14 years I was delighted with it,

Aw thank you that's an incredible compliment. I'm a big fan of the show too. I'm such a beginner though, literally only done 4 oil paintings EVER, first being last year and then the three I've done during lockdown so I'd need to get much more experienced before even thinking about anything like that. Maybe ina year or two I'll feel differently. :hehe:

I'm setting myself a bit of a challenge next month, I've bought a LARGE canvas (40 x 32 inches) and am going to try and do some realism on it with a portrait. I've decided on the subject and found a great photograph to work from. Drawing the linework up tonight ready to being painting - might start August 1st and see how long it takes me doing a few hours every single day.

Planning on recording the whole painting process as a timelapse too - my sister has kindly allowed me to use her spare bedroom to paint it in! Excited...
