Long time OC! (Long time no-see, you see). Hello again and welcome back to Only Connect! Yes I've been away for a few months, attempting to pay for heating in the house and figure out how to make things move around on computer monitors but now I'm (hopefully) back to play Only Connect once more, now with a new format I hope will make the game slightly more fair. Think of it like New Coke, without the horrible taste of razorblades.

First, some housekeeping, here's how out hi-score table stands after the horribly abrupt end to our last game:

Now, onto the shiny new format! In previous OC games, players would all be guessing at connections one at a time, meaning only one person ever scored points on each question. This really slowed down proceedings and caused some players to dominate the game. In this new format for the connections round, you will all see all six connections at once, and they will all receive clues at the same time (usually once every day or two).

Whenever you think you know the connection to one of the groups, you PM me that connection, and if you're right, when all the connections have been revealed, you'll receive points (5 points will be scored if you get it with one clue, 3 for two clues, 2 for three clues, and 1 point for all four clues). However, you can only PM me once per connection, so if you PM me "Places in America" after seeing Brooklyn and Romeo, but then the next clue is "Harper", you can't change your answer, you're locked in.

For the sake of time restraints this first game won't have a music question, rather two picture questions, and all will be going up later today!

Answers revealed this evening

Answers time!

Connection 1 was, well, cruel. Only one person took a stab at it, that being Shaun, bravely trying to it on one clue (Letters in the country name). This was however, not the answer, the answer, was these were those location's DVD Region Codes. China is region code 5, anywhere not pertaining to a specific location (so cruiseships, aeroplanes and, in this case, outer space) is region code 8, any US territory is 1 in the UK we use region 2 DVDs. No points there

Everyone who guessed connection 2 got it right, to varying degrees. Rokkajava and Livia went for 2 points, both saying homophones, which I will give, because I'm being nice, but Shaun gave the precise answer, which is that these are words in which you can rearrange the letters to produce a new word which is a homophone of the first word. He secured 1 point.

Lot of guesses on connection 3. Shaun bagged it for 5 points, and Livia for 2. Unfortunately for Rob, they weren't all played by Angela Lansbury (especially not clues 3 and 4!), and in Mokkajava's case, they were not all specifically British Born actresses. It was simply that these characters sang the titular song.

Mokkajava went quickly on connection 4, and fell into my hideous trap. The first clue was infact a key-stroke emoticon, however, after clues 2 and 3 it became clear this wasn't what was being looked for. Shaun correctly spotted the connection for 3 points, as these are all words in which the underscore can be replaced with any vowel to make a word.

Mokkajava's answer to connection 5 was a lot more creative than the actual answer (I wish it had been things you can nibble on, although hopefully not the case for Clue 3). Livia and Shaun both bagged 3 realising these were all things which were "Anti-" (Anti-Tregus, Anti-Pasto, Anti-Biotics, Anti-Meridian)

Livia tried her luck at connection 6, thinking they were all Captain America characters, and Mokkajava said they were all deadly things. They are all deadly, and all heroes, but in very different ways. As Shaun correctly spotted for 2, they are all Female Gladiators (Nightshade, Falcon, Jet, Lightning). And coincidentally, they were my 4 childhood crushes.

I feel like I know what it is about, but not sure if I got the last in sequence right.

Only Shaun got this devilish sequence for 2 points. The first clue is a quote from the weatherman Michael Fish, so one "Fish". Pisces is the zodiac symbol of two fish. The French for "goldfish" is "poisson rouge", or "Red Fish". So, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish! In my case, I gave the example of Dory from Finding Nemo.

Shaun, Mokkajava and James managed to deduce these were all Vegas hotels, but Mokkajava plucked for the wrong one! Shaun and James correctly guessed MGM Grand, as it is the largest casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

James, Shaun and Ammi managed this for 3 points, correctly identifying they are in fact the four directors of the Harry Potter film series in chronological order, last up was David Yates, who directed the final four films.

Ammi, James and Shaun also saw through this sequence for 3 points. Now expecting anyone to realise these were Rage Against The Machine singles was difficult enough, but it would've been impossible to expect people to know the charting positions of these tracks! Unless of course, fourth in the sequence had been Christmas number 1 a few years back :)

Sequence 6, Mokkojava incredibly managed to get without the connection. The answer is Panama, but nobody seemed to know why. We have a picture of a man, a picture of a (floor)plan, a picture of a canal, and finally a picture of Panama. This is the famous Palindrome "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama". AMANAPLANACANALPANAMA backwards is AMANAPLANACANALPANAMA
