Yeah, a little mentioned fact about spaceflight history is that, during the Second World War, the Germans were the first people to put an object in space, using one of those.

Of Course some of the Team
that designed them
went to America to work for them.
Speeding up the first Atomic Bomb
loads dropped on Japan
more than they needed to.

you mean some brilliant folks came to America to fight against the EVIL of germany and japan, and we used just enough force to get it right, which is why both Germany and Japan are now modern democratic stable countries, because of AMERICA, right?
What America did TO germany and japan, is WHY germany and japan are so successful today. both countries owe America everything. because we could have destroyed them. we could have razed them to the ground and burned every last body.
DON'T FORGET THAT.

Actually Britain is doing much better than Germany and our recovery from the recession has been much faster.
I really don't think you understand how annoying it is to hear an American who wasn't alive during WW2 and has never served in any of the forces, remind Europe of what a big deal you were in the war. Most of Europe and a large part of the rest of the free world had been fighting for three years by the time the USA was attacked by Japan and decided they'd better throw in their lot with the allies. Much like WW1, in fact. The outcome of WW2 would probably have been different without the intervention of the USA,but you've got to remember that the UK, Canada (the first to arrive), India, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa... lots and lots of countries fought the Nazis. The USA didn't swoop in like Captain America and save the day, no matter what Hollywood might tell you. The allies were up against the wire even with the USA. I have massive respect for the Americans who did come, many of whom lost their lives. But the "we saved yo ass..." sentiments from people who never fought and never will is tiresome.
As for the V2... it's good the engineers went to the USA and helped America win the Space Race. Much better and more positive than focusing on the rockets they built for Hitler that killed thousands of civilians in Britain.

Actually that's exactly what it was like. Britain was losing the war before America got involved, and America did swoop in and turn the tides.

yes we were dragged into the war, just like all of Europe was. DO you think England was fighting against Germany just from altruistic purpose?
No, they only joined the war when they were threatened too, just like America.
England even tried to make peace treaties with the Nazi's.
England was even trying to negotiate with Germany to keep control of other countries. England only started their war against the Nazi's when their own interests were threatened. England was just as selfish and reluctant as America was at the start.

Infact it was a Deal
Poland must not be invaded.
Germany pissed over that deal
and took over Poland.
They even had Russian help
early in 1939

exactly,. england was perfectly happy for Germany to stomp all over plenty of people aslong as Englands interests weren't threatened. so stop judging America for being "late".
England was LATE too.
