Anyone staying up to watch/listen to the start of the ashes? I'll stay up and listen until I end up falling asleep.

Not sure about Giles playing instead of Monty!

346/3 after the first day.Really poor start,I was listening until gone 3 and I've watched the highlights on the bbc website.

That first ball by Harminson was so wide! I'm suprised to see Pieterson bowling as much as he has. There seems to be something up with Harmy and he didn't bowl after 2pm.

Harmisons 1st ball last night was a joke!!! .. he bowled it at 3rd slip!!!!

.. they gotta shape up, or they're gonna get hammered!!

..Mind you, as my mate keeps pointing out, we lost the 1st test last year, and went on to beat the Aussies, so lets not lose all hope!!

I was looking for odds on 450-2 after the first ball last night. I hope the rest of the team play better tonight.

We need to at 373-3. We could really do with a few wickets.

It is a record stand (171 runs)!

Oh my God!

Red Moon

It's a new record stand at the ground... no two batsman have made so many runs together there.

And Harmison is still blowing as bad as I do.

why isnt flintoff having ago yet then

or anyone but him

Red Moon
24-11-2006, 12:41 AM
Who knows. He has given away 5 runs in extra's. I guess, Flintoff is trying to see if he can regain his confidence. They should send him home and call for a replacement. We really need Jones fit and well again.

I thought the bowling was bad but 53/3 is poor.I just hope Pieterson, Bell and Flintoff can salvage it so we don't face the follow on.

At least Harmison managed to get a wicket, that might give him a bit more confidence.I wonder how long it will be before Monty get's his chance?

Highlights are now up on the bbc website btw.

Flintoff looked back to his best taking 4 wicket's, we need Flintoff and Pieterson to build a good partnership if were to get close to Austraila.

Dan_
24-11-2006, 03:09 PM
Flintoff is really the only one bowling upto the required standard to beat Australia.

I'm thinking we wont make it past 400 to avoid the follow on.

Red Moon
25-11-2006, 12:51 AM
It only takes a couple of hundreds from a couple of players and we should make it. Here is hoping they can do it.

Jay

Send for the England A-Team..... they can't do any worse.

In fact if the Austrians carry on and get about 260 runs in their second innings, that will give them a lead of 700 runs just before lunch. Then they can put England into bat and it will all be over by the end of the day.

Then the real headache will start for England. How to pick themselves up in time for the second test.

[i]BTW - it was the largest margin in test history when the follow-on was not applied.[i]

We are being well and truly thrashed.Vaughan, Trescothick and Simon Jones are big misses.

Hoggard and Flintoff seem like the only bowlers who are really going to test the Aussie's attack.I would give Monty a go next text, he cannot do much worse. If Harmison and Anderson continue to underperform we may aswell replace them, what's the use in having out of form players?

There is some hope to be taken from last nights play. At least we got a score that is more on par with what a test side should be getting. 293-5 isn't that bad and there was some decent scores from Cooke, Collingwood and Pietersen. The chances of us winning or drawing the game are very slim but there has been a big improvement in the batting from the first innings.

Our problem has been the bowling. I still think Harmison needs to be set home and we need to get another fast bowler into the side, but then I keep thinking do we need one. We could play two spinners and have both Giles and Panesar in the team. Leaving us with 3 quick bowlers in Flintoff Hoggard and Anderson. And don't forget we still have Collingwood who Flintoff seems to have forgotten can blow a bit in a holding role.

We did much better yesterday.A bit more encouraging that we may even get to around 350 with Australia in very good form.

Only downside is Warney is starting to hit form. But Pietersen and Collingwood started to win the battle with him, KP really had him rattled.

We really do need to make a rapid change in bowling, I'd proably go with Monty and Giles the way that Harmison is playing.

I've heard a very strong rumour that Vaughan is not too far off being fit once again, now that would be a tremendous boost to the side,he's got that calming presence on the side and is also a great batsman.

Ponting and McGrath are also starting to struggle with injuries, it might just be starting to turn in our favour again.

Who do you drop for Vaughan would be the queston and where do you play him, number 3 or as an opener?

Tough one on who to get rid of, possibly Bell or Cook. Both have had one good innings and one poor innings.I'd have him as an opener, purely for his expierence.

Going on the form of the last match I guess you would drop Strauss. Crookes form has been rather good since he joined the England side and he would benefit from his experience and make him a far better player.

Strauss has got out by making two identically stupid shots so he might be an option to drop.

The Australians will be targeting him, they use to do it to Graham Gooch many years ago. They got him out nearly every time the same way for the whole of the English summer. Looks like they are doing same to him, picking on his habits and instincts. They are hard things to break and take a lot time in the nets and training.

England unchanged from the first test

It's a mistake... it will cost us the game.

And now we are 32-1..... here we go again.... I really hope we don't lose this one.

Well done to the lads last night especially Colly and KP.551/6-declared and now Australia are 28/1.

I hope the bowlers have as good a time as the batsman.

Warne and McGrath looked average.

Australia 312 for 5, Hoggard getting all four wickets yesterday.Only Flintoff and Hoggard seem to be getting wickets.

If only Giles hadn't dropped Ponting when he was on 35

We got bowled out cheaply and they made the total required with a few overs to spare.

Great start to the 3rd test for England. We bowled Australia all out for 244,Monty took 5 wickets and Harmison 4.

I'm just glad we finally gave Monty a chance and it totally payed off, can anyone see Giles doing that?

We batted fairly poorly only making 215.Harmison was 3rd highest scorer! Monty did aswell as Giles does with the bat, still bemused we never picked him before now.

Australia now 119/1.
