View Full Version : Who would you say is more jealous of their own gender?

Men? Women? Or both are equally as bad as each other? I'm a bit bored so I'm just interested to start up a fun psychological discussion.
Imo from what I see on here and with my friends and family I think that women come off as more jealous of a pretty girl than men do if they see a handsome guy, I don't notice jealousy as much with men anyway as maybe we might hide it better I don't know.
Poll will be up shortly to cast your votes.

Equal I guess - it varies.

From the slagging off any boy band gets on here,I'de say men but saying that some women get catty but as Livia said guys like to blame jealousy in the fact girls don't like other girls,so would have to go equal

I think women tend to be more jealous of things such as physical appearance.
Where men tend to be more jealous about things like wealth and power.
On here (and most places) its made out as if every woman is jealous of every other woman though and its seriously ****ing annoying. Pretty much every reality tv show when a woman (especially if they are attractive) is voted off its ALWAYS the fault of 'jealous women'

I have never been short of male friends, but for most of my life, I have elected to spend most of my time with both, girlfriends, and 'girl' friends.
This being so, I have very strong opinions on this subject which are based on my own personal experiences, and also upon my non personal experiences.
I actually believe that women are less jealous of their own sex than men are of theirs, but the difference is, that women do not hide their jealousy as well as men do.
If a woman genuinely dislikes another woman through jealousy, she is more likely to bitch, let her feelings be known, and definitely not 'hang around' with that person.
Men, on the other hand, are far more devious. A man who is jealous of another man will be more likely to never confront his feelings, and will be far more likely to hang around with the guy whilst backstabbing him at any opportunity, and even secretly wish for his downfall whilst slapping his back and wishing him well.
If a woman is pretty, and attractive to men, jealous women will not 'hang with her' under any circumstances, but will instead form little groups and backbite the pretty girl, label her a slut etc. etc.
A covertly jealous man by comparison, will be 'friends' and hang with the object of his envy, if that man is handsome and able to 'pull' girls, because the jealous guy is hoping to benefit by association from the guy's abilities to 'pull' women.
I have experienced this throughout my life. Which is why I preferred the company of women, once I realised that successive male 'friends' were actually back-stabbing jealous bastards - something which did not happen overnight.
It is the same with wealthy guys, powerful guys etc, the trusting unaware ones are always surrounded by sycophantic hangers on who - in reality - are jealous backstabbers, there only to benefit from association.
Famous victims who suffered because of covert male jealousy, include; Elvis Presley and Mike Tyson.
Just my opinion.

I would say women are envious of the lack of pressure to be both productive and nurturing.

This.
Do we really have to put people into boxes based on their gender? People are individuals, some people are jealous of others, some people are bitchy, that doesn't come down to gender, it comes down to personality and we all have different ones

Is the fact that they were white relevant? lol
I completely disagree with your point though. Men "hate" good looking male celebrities just as much as women do, the difference is that women are accused of hating because of jealousy but men aren't. Most straight men hate One Direction for example and that's put down to them being a **** band, if a woman hated Cheryl Cole it'd be because she's jealous of her not because, well, she's a **** "musician" this happens all the time, I notice it all the time. Another example is driving, I'll be a passenger in the car with my husband and as we travel he'll come across people doing stupid things that'll make him annoyed, just as many men and women but when its a woman he'll say something like "****ing woman" where as if its a man it's "wanker" or whatever, the fact that he's a man isn't brought into it

Maybe there is something in their personalities that the girls don't like, maybe they come across as big headed etc,but because you find them attractive its maybe easy for you to form that conclusion, the girls probably just don't like them,it happens.being attractive doesn't automatically make you likeable.

Exactly (not that I dislike Kendra or Nadia yet anyway, have only seen one episode so far!) Women are awful jealous of these good looking women yet Ashley Roberts was a firm favourite in her year and probably would have won if Charlies daughter hadn't been been paraded around at the eleventh hour :fist: how is that logical?

Thing is, with one direction he genuinely weren't talented. That being said, someone like Ben Haenow who's obviously attractive has a large male fanbase. I'm going to see if there are any psychological studies on things like this.. Would be interesting to see factual evidence, either way.

Look at the women getting defensive :hehe:
But no, I'd genuinely say it was an equal thing, I'll admit to being jealous of other men a few times.. either because of looks, who their partner is, their success/wealth.
Women do get accused of it more, but i think that's because jealous women are much more obvious than jealous men.

You've missed my point completely Raph. I'm not saying men are jealous of One Direction, I'm saying that their reason for disliking them probably is because their **** and people accept that but people don't accept the same for a woman if she hates a good looking female musician, it's almost always put down to jealousy even though it makes no sense what so ever because there's a whole host of very attractive female musicians that women do like just like there are good looking female reality TV star that women like but still women are always accused of being jealous if they dislike a goodlooking female Reality TV Star

It's actually a subject that really pisses me off and I don't think you'd really understand unless you're a woman. This whole casual sexism thing that goes on so much without people really being sexist but its just "normal". Like another example by my husband again lol (he's not that bad really) was my 14 year old daughter was talking about food she'd buy when she was an adult and getting her own food shopping and Gav says to her "Oh you better marry a rich man so" luckily I've taught my daughter better than that and her reply was "I'll be making my own money" but if it had been my son who he was having the conversation with do you reckon he would have said "Oh you better marry a rich woman" ? of course he wouldn't and I wouldn't mind, my daughter is a straight A student and the most into school over either of the boys, it's insulting eventhough it's not intended to be and is meant to be a joke
This is usually the time when Harry Hill shouts "FIGHT" then a big blow up woman comes out of one door and a huge blow up man comes out another.

Yep. That's been my experience. Liamh.
I don't know if any of you have watched that film Lovelace (I was made to watch it by a woman it wasn't my choice) but the man on that who is Linda Lovelace's partner kinda reminds me of the strong male jealous type that can be very dangerous. He would beat her and all sorts, it wasn't good to watch at all. Some men are like that, always touching their partner in public, keeping them really close and trying to speak for them at every opportunity. Disgrace to the gender tbh.

I was actually joking.. but you don't have to be a certain gender to understand sexism, i grew up surrounded by women, i like to think that i have a more vast knowledge of women and how they think/work than the average man, i know how infuriating it could be.. but i don't really think that suggesting women are jealous of other women is a sexist thing, more just people being ignorant.

Men are so much worse, like you wouldn't even believe the hate some guys have for other men they feel are 'better' than themselves, it's pretty worrying when you see it, especially in friends/family you care about. Worst part is that men will do more than just 'bitch' about the person given the chance, I don't believe a woman would really do anything beyond that when jealous. Also, when 'bitching' a woman vents out her frustrations however misguided they may be, a bloke will bottle it up and it will eat away at him.

If someone says that every single woman is jealous of another woman, just because they're women.. then that is ignorant in my eyes, it's taking into account only one variable of a situation and coming up with a completely wrong idea of why someone might be reacting the way they are and that is ignorant.

Both get jealous the same amount. Does it matter though? who gets jealous more. You can't control your own feelings and that. some boys take jealously a bit to far then girls but both equally jealous.

Didn't see the equal option, otherwise I would have putten that.
Men are jealous of each other for dick size and how "manly" one another is.
Women tend to be jealous based off of how pretty one another is.
This doesn't apply to all men or all women, but they tends to be the main reasons behind it all.

And even if you look at how girls talk to the ones they perceive to be prettier in real life as well, they put the sickly sweet voice on and kind of talk to them in a hostile way.
