when i was a nipper
and Labour was my idle
i was a Tory chipper
positive some of my poems were liable.
i fell in love with Tony
red was my best smarty
never did he speak pony
Labour was the strongest party.
ridiculing all in the "commons"
politics had a eruption
the "andrew Marr" show was no summons
i always tuned in to see corruption.
the need to vote was mega
only my age did ration
interested in change made me a beggar
bursting out of me was Passion.
once eighteen and putting my cross
really did ware thin
it got as interesting as my morning floss
then Iraqi was what closed Tony's grin.
year on year i see waste
the change was minimal
they all say what we want to taste
hopping it makes there party winnable.
my conclusion is green
vote sixteen must take precedence
because by the time you are nineteen
you will realize every party speaks the brown air substance.

( i am on a low today as you can tell - is there a party that is all good ? i don't think so sunny jim. love a few political rhymes in reply to this to cheer me up. )

We lived under rule from those Tory scum.
Thatcher Milk Snatcher ruined our towns,
Closed down our pits and brought industry down.
The years went along and so much went wrong.
Those Tory leaders thought not just to feed us!
Then being sixteen with past leaders so mean,
Like a breath of fresh air,along came Tony Blair.
The future looked bright after living with the ****e,
that we'd always known as we had grown.
With Labour in power how could it be bad,After those long years
that we had just had.
How little we knew until immigrants came through,
They came in their masses with shiny EU passes to live here for free
and drink English tea.
Those days became black when he invaded Iraq,
The country in protest at this act of grotesque,
and for what reason?
It seemed just like treason.
He opened our door,He created a war,
We just wanted him,to feed all our poor.
Then Gordon Brown,Well he's just a clown.
Not one to detest,But forgetable at best.
Soo....How do we vote now?
Tory or Labour with our foreign neighbours?
It all matters not,They've all lost the plot,
Lets put our head in the sand,Just like Russell Brand.

While I'd like to see young people, especially teenagers, get more involved in politics, I don't think they they should have the vote until they're 18. Even then, to use a Judge Judyism, they're not fully cooked... but 16 in my opinion, is too young.

I am in full support of 16 year olds being given the vote. I see no reason now at all why they should not.

I myself was highly political and interested in politics when I was 16, indeed from being even younger.
I didn't like being excluded from voting at 16 when I could then do a great deal of other things associated with being an adult.

However things change, when I was 16 I was a supporter of the Conservative party, now at 22,I am solid Labour for the 2015 election.
So then, I am pleased to hear that Ed Miliband will have Labour bring in votes for 16 year olds by 2016 if he wins in 2015.

I think the 16 year olds we heard in the Scottish referendum debate, showed young people can be activated as to politics and in fact for me they spoke more sense in those debates than even the professional politicians did most of the time.

Doesn't look like they will anyway,they haven't been anywhere near an overall majority in 4 elections now.
Also for around the last 25 years they haven't looked like getting more than 37% in general elections either.

Despite the issues now of UKIP and the SNP in Scotland with their increases of votes, I think some great change did come about in 1997 when Tony Blair walked in with a landslide, which was again repeated in 2001.

That was, that Labour became the natural party of govt. and that it is hard to beat them.
As was shown in 2010, despite a discredited leader for labour,a disaster of an election campaign and after the near 3 years of chaos that had occurred too, the trust for the Conservatives did not return and they were left without a confident 'yes' to govern from the electorate.
No overall majority and well short too by 19 seats.

Even now, the Conservatives have to be around 6% ahead of Labour to just probably get the barest of overall majorities.
Whereas Labour could possibly get one being neck and neck or 1 or 2 percentage points ahead of the Conservatives.

With the massive anti Conservative vote across the parties at present,it would be a massive backwards miracle for the Conservatives to get in outright again now.

A Bad Poem For WaterHog.

The only things I know of politics, I learnt from a wise old neighbour, who said “Girls who are too Conservative, then too Liberal, usually end up in Labour.

Only joking, I’m not that dumb, though still, I must be real, and admit that when it comes to politics, I’m not as smart as Joey Steele.

But I remember a time when I was a lad, (And I say this with no pride) We’d no food, no fire, and house was so cold, That we all used to sleep outside.

We were poorer than dirt – I kid you not, The poorest family on’t street. I wore second hand clothes but had no shoes, So me mam used to boot polish me feet.

One day when we’d now’t in’t larder, I ended up getting some clog, When me dad asked butcher for some “bones for us pet”, And I said “Oh Dad are we getting a dog?”

They called our village ‘Shintin City’, And I know that lying’s a sin, But when Debt Collector’s knocked and asked for me mam, We all used to shout “Shi’ in’t in”

Back then nobody helped if you were poor, In fact, the best thing that anyone did, Was when we were burgled but there was now’t to nick, So the burglars left us two quid.

I was young and knew now’t of politics, But still, I did think it strange, That no matter which party got voted to power, Not one thing for us did it change.

So though I’ve not been much use, I’ve put me twopennorth in’t pot, And I swear that every word is true -- But then again – Maybe not. :hehe:
