[Chaos for thousands of passengers as UK airspace is restricted due to computer failure at £600m air traffic control centre

Airspace closed after technical problem at centre in Swanwick, Hampshire
Flights travelling across UK have been affected and more delays expected

There really should be a backup system just incase this happens.I mean what did they do before they had these powerful computer systems?

They had radar though.Also you'd think they could get on a normal PC and get satellite info on aircraft locations.Maybe?

True but it probably comes down to the number of trained staff that are on hand to do it, I imagine there just isn't the manpower left to do it safely
