Just watching it on BBC news - apparently, according to air traffic control, the plane went missing 46 minutes into the flight after requesting "an unusual flight path."
It really has been a **** year to be plane.
...aww jeez, this is awful news......

Horrific news. I hope this turns out OK but fear not, and it is the "requesting an unusual flight path" piece that intrigues me, because it hints of 'detour by hijack'. I hope I'm wrong.

One British Person on the lost plane
Its normal to to go Higher if a Storm is in front of them
many say they may have left it to late
to fly over it.

what an awful year for air travel we've had.
The search continues for AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501, with a senior official saying initial data suggests the plane is at the bottom of the sea.
From the BBC
what an awful year for air travel we've had.
Apparently it's been the worst year for 15 years.
151 air incidents in total and over 1500 people killed.

Now we are finding out more
they were refused to go high due to other planes.
So they were left doomed into a Storm at the wrong level.
Now
bits are in the sea

Oh no... just saw the stretchers, that was the relatives :(
My worst fear is dying in an aircraft accident, this is horrible!:(
God... According to the Independant, some of the bodies are floating around still holding hands.

How tragic. What a terrible way to go. I hope the news here doesn't broadcast the footage of the bodies in the sea..

Yes If I was the Pilot
I would have said I am going above the storm
Get the plane out of my way.
Because they Stopped this well good Pilot
telling him no he can not go up
they killed them all.

You are right they have blood on their hands maybe even rising above it even a little way would have helped,

If the weather was the cause of the crash I'm sure the investigation will lead to job losses.
Sounds like the pilots were well experienced and did their job.
Been a terrible year for planes. Although this year has very much had a long string of freak events.

I think they told him not to increase altitude because of other aircraft which would then have put more lives in jeopardy. Pilots are conditioned that in emergencies the risk of other lives is also tantamount which is why they will always try to ditch in the sea or away from populated areas

what I don't understand is why they were flying at all, if the storm was so bad they couldn't fly through it and the flight path of other planes meant they couldn't divert? It was a routine 2 hour flight, was it a freak storm that was not forecast?

It could have been a a brief Freak Storm
little time but to up.
And Its a Fact that they asked to go up
but the base said NO
due to other planes above them

The good thing that's come out of this tragedy is that there are actual bodies to bury and we know how the plane crashed.
It's a shame it's happened in the first place.

Surabaya, Indonesia (CNN)AirAsia Indonesia did not have a license to fly the Surabaya-to-Singapore route on Sunday that ended in tragedy, it has been revealed.
The airline was approved to fly the route four days a week but it did not include Sunday.
Indonesia's Ministry of Transport has announced a full investigation and suspended Indonesia AirAsia flights between the two cities. It will also check all other airlines operating in the country to make sure they were complying with license agree

The explains at least why there was no room for them to rise above the storm they shouldn't have been in the air at all :idc:
