View Full Version : Doctor asked my brother how I was doing

I went into the doctors with a sore knee about 4 weeks ago. It's okay now.

However, today my brother was at the docs, and because it was a skeleton staff (no pun intended! :D), my bruv saw my doc.

To cut a long story short, he told me she was more interested in asking how I was than dealing with his ailment.:conf:

Whatever happened to doctor/patient confidentiality??? :nono:

That's very true, she shouldn't be discussing your medical conditions with anyone

Exactly what I thought. She's only young about 32 or 35.

Last time I was in there she hugged me. :nono:

I wish I could change her.

Sounds like a nice friendly lady who cares for your wellbeing, probably didn't think anything of it if its just a sore knee you had

It's very hard to get ONE doctor round here, never mind chop and change.

It's only a sore knee lol, she wouldn't share it if it was something serious

She shouldn't discuss me with anyone else. She is breaking the rules.

I couldn't care less if it were a cut finger.

your doctor treats you as a real person, and yet she is in the wrong.

maybe you would like a doctor that kicks you in the balls and says does that hurt.

omg, your doctor was interested in your well-being. shame on her. You should file a law suit and make sure she never works in the medical profession again.

Some people are into that sort of thing :hehe:.

OP: You're right, she shouldn't really be discussing your ailments with other people, it might seem like a minor thing but it's not really up to her to decide what you're OK with other people knowing about your physical condition. I mean, you can argue that it's "only a sore knee" - but then, what if someone has a casual manual job and they REALLY need the money, and then their doctor blabs about a sore knee (that might now be fine) to a family member, who then mentions it to the employer, and they decide to let that person go because they might not be fit. You just never know, I guess.

The hugging... is quite weird if she's not a personal acquaintance and it's come out of nowhere :/. I don't really like ANYONE hugging or touching me (arm around shoulder, things like that) other than my wife and kids... even my close friends and other relatives I find it uncomfortable. If my doctor did it I'd be quite disturbed :joker:

I saw my doctor the other day and showed him my leg and saidf

"it hurts when I do this (i moved it up and to the side)"

he said "dont do that then"

I know they get paid a lot but really its all worth it.

The ones who tell you to go home and get over yourself a bit are the ones worth paying double. Most would have given you antibiotics "just in case".

She's a Doctor though she's not supposed to discuss your medical conditions with anyone, no matter how trivial she might think it is

It's a sore knee not the clap... As said the fact she is conscientious enough to ask is admirable.

I think it's nice. I went over Christmas and my doctor asked how my Nan was because she's been ill and I thought it was really considerate.

I'd like a doctir who keeps my medical details between me and him. A doctor who has a straight face.

Also my doctor looks like Susan Boyle.

With all the respect to your nan, really the doctor is there to see you.

Actually, the doctor was in the wrong. By sharing the fact you had an injury, she is opening the door to questions such as, how did you hurt your leg, what where you doing, why were you doing that etc by the other person(s) Also, if shared with him, who else has she shared it with, a well meaning manufacturer of knee supports etc ... its a slippery slope. A patients details are either confidential, or they are not, and a doctor should know better.

As to the hugging, like was said, unless a close personal friend, in which case she shouldn't be your doctor, it is completely inappropriate.

Sounds like a good old fashioned family GP to me.

If our doctor asks me how hubby is that's fine..takes about 30 seconds of my allotted time.
My lovely Kiwi doctor used to give me loads of hugs before she went back to NZ.
Very caring young lady.
I am all for getting patient/doctor friendly banter going, puts you at ease.
