The singing competition with a difference is BACK for its fourth series. This time, Rita Ora joins Ricky Wilson, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am as a mentor, replacing Kylie Minogue. Emma Willis and Marvin Humes are also back presenting for a second series!

Good show tonight but I am fed up of them saying they should have turned their chairs round.
Fine when that is the case once or twice but to keep not turning their chairs round while saying they should have, is wearing really thin and coming over very false now too.

This show is so superior to The X-Factor, in format, presentation and content. It has less of the noisy, flashy American-style razzamatazz so increasingly prevalent in TV talent and game shows of the last few decades, and the show is more about the contestants and less about the judges.

The idea of the judges being kept totally ignorant of the contestants 'back-story' until after the audition, and the idea of not being able to actually see the contestant during the audition, are brilliant and means that - for once - a 'singing competition, is truly just about the singing.

Ex-'Hearsay' singer, Kim Marsh's daughter Emilie failed to get through the auditions, but you can bet your 'bottom dollar', that had this been the X Factor, where it would have been revealed that she was Kym Marsh's daughter during the pre-audition 'chat', she would have got through.

Another difference between the 'Voice' and 'The X-Factor' (apart from the 'Golden' Legend Sir Tom) is that the obviously deluded, totally talent-less 'cranks' are 'filtered out' during preliminary auditions so that by the time the show airs, only those with some real talent are screened.

This leads me in to what I personally believe is the greatest difference in the two shows; the judges on the 'Voice' are not cruel and hurtful to any contestant who does not get through, but instead offer advice, encouragement and appreciation to 'let them down gently.

I know, this may seem 'false' and takes away the 'entertainment aspect' which some enjoy watching as the judges on the 'X-Factor' ridicule the 'no-hopers' and 'deluded' with caustic comments, but it has to be remembered that often, these are young kids merely trying to make it in life - no matter how unrealistic is their chosen profession - and there is no need for cruelty when rejecting them.

All in all, the difference between the two shows is glaring in the actual levels of talent on show, because - for me - there was more real singing talent on last night's 'The Voice' than in a whole season of The X-Factor'.
