Gabourey Sidibe, Courtney Love, Raven-Symoné, Macy Gray, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Estelle and Naomi Campbell guest star.

Timbaland is the executive music producer.

I dunno my thoughts after the 1st episode. I like the idea and love the characters but I think there's just some problems with the execution of it all. It's definitely got potential.

After two episodes, the show's been renewed for a second season! It's doing really well in the ratings.

it's still half-epic half-corny but after How to Get Away with Murder I'm well up for some more messy but entertaining TV.

There was so many wtf moments in episode 3 I dunno whether to keep watching. I feel like I'd be more invested if it wasn't so black and white because Cookie and Jamal are very likeable and Lucious has pretty much no redeemable character traits. Andre has a lot of potential to be a complex character (in comparison to everyone else being caricatures thus far) but I keep forgetting he exists.

I think I'll give it a couple more episodes but right now I kinda think this show is overhyped.

I guess it is. The only comparison it has to Glee is that it features musical performances. However, the songs in Empire are only used when a character is actually performing unlike Glee where they spontaneously burst into song.

The premier was ok. I still think this show is kinda messy and they wrapped up the whole Frank Gathers really quickly when it was just kinda left on a cliffhanger for most of last season. Jamal becoming like Lucious is kinda predictable and I'm not ready to believe after spending a whole season preaching self-acceptance that he suddenly dislikes being around effeminate men. I get the feeling we're gonna be rooting for Hakeem a bit more this season. As much as he's made out to be a brat he's shown a lot of signs of having the best moral compass.
