I have seen a few people who are incapable of understanding some of the problems Alicis has including her ability to recite the alphabet.
Maybe you should have a little read of this and educate yourselves. ;)
Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that mainly affects the way people read and spell words.
Signs and symptoms
Dyslexia is a spectrum disorder, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe.
People with dyslexia have particular difficulty with:
phonological awareness
verbal memory
rapid serial naming
verbal processing speed
These terms are explained in more detail below.
Phonological awareness
Phonological awareness is thought to be a key skill in early reading and spelling development. It is the ability to identify how words are made up of smaller units of sound, known as phonemes. Changes in the sounds that make up words can lead to changes in their meaning.
For example, a child with a good level of phonological awareness would understand that if you change the letter "p" in the word "pat" to "s", the word becomes "sat".
Verbal memory
Verbal memory is the ability to remember a sequence of verbal information for a short period of time.
For example, the ability to remember a short list such as "red, blue, green", or a set of simple instructions, such as "Put on your gloves and your hat, find the lead for the dog and then go to the park."
Rapid serial naming
This is the ability to name a series of colours, objects or numbers as fast as possible.
Verbal processing speed
Verbal processing speed is the time it takes to process and recognise familiar verbal information, such as letters and digits.
For example, someone with a good verbal processing speed has the ability to quickly write down unfamiliar words when they are spelled out, or write down telephone numbers they are told.

Such a shame she wasn't given more attention when she was younger.
I wonder if she has ever been diagnosed or if she has self diagnosed.
Took years for my daughter to get her diagnosis, schools were not really interested or capable at the time.
I tired to explain a lot of this last night Ben sadly people still feel the need to make nasty spiteful comments.

Yeah, I get people don't like her, but the fact they feel the need (in the house and on the forums) to be rude about an actual disorder she has is disgusting.

No it explains nothing, we know what dyslexia is... Doesn't at all explain why anybody would generally be stupid because they have trouble with grammar, spelling and reading. It's like you 'omg but she's dyslexic' people are trying to brand dyslexic people as thick just to make Katie H etc. look bad for calling a dyslexic person thick.

I have dyslexia, all through high school I had to be segregated in IT because I had to have a special screen to type on I had to go sit in a different class room with people who had been chucked out of class for bad behaviour because numbers on a page or a board looked like they were dancing in my head. I am very aware of what dyslexia is and how it effects you.
I'm sorry but it does nor excuse some of the idiot things Alicia has said, she clearly told us she learned the alphabet through teaching her kids. She could have taken the time to educate herself a long time ago. Basically she's what I despise in dyslexia sufferers, she makes us look lazy. Nobodys the same obviously but seeing as she has eventually learned she most likely used being dyslexic as an excuse to be lazy. I worked very hard to get to the reading and writing level I am.

She has been called 'slow', dyslexia can cause reaction to be slower in some people...
She has been called 'thick' because of the way she speaks and according to Callum for not realising straight away whats going on when things are happening in the house, another classic sign of adult dyslexia.
Amy, my nephew has it, when he was younger he had the problems with the writing/reading side of things but funnily enough that went as he got older, he is a very intelligent person but sometimes his reactions are slower than normal, not always but sometimes.
You will very rarely find 2 people that suffer from dyslexia that will have the exact same symptoms.

Who's said that people with Dyslexia are thick? It's just the reason why Alicia takes longer to process things is because of her Dyslexia, the reason why I can verify this is because I have a Cousin who's Dyslexic and he takes a while to process things, and any letters or numbers are all back to front and jumbled up, but his very intelligent and definitely runs rings around me and most of the family except for probably my other Cousin.:joker:

Yeah I am aware, they sent me for tests to determine how bad my dyslexia was. I got called a ****** because I had to be treated differently but because I wanted to better myself I worked hard and I still struggle but I never gave up. Maybe because she was not diagnosed when she was younger and probably tried to cover it up as she has admitted she was embarrassed by it? I cannot answer that for her, that is just my opinion.

Alicia just seems to need a bit of time to gather her thoughts sometimes before she responds, but I think she responds well when she does think about what she wants to say.
Even if the housemates do think she's thick or slow or whatever, I don't see the need for them to go on and on about it. I know people will probably say, oh well they are locked in the house and bored so of course they are going to talk about each other, but I don't see why they have to keep going on mocking something that clearly upsets her. She has said tried to speak up for herself and yet they continue on about it taking the piss. I don't think she has done anything so nasty to them to warrant this behaviour from them, it just seems so unnecessary and a bit cruel.
Thanks for the link about dyslexia btw, I will have a read over it.

Alicia seems to be like me in the sense of not liking the pressure of the Academic subjects, you're demanded to do well on all of them yet you end up not being brilliant at any of them, my Teachers kept telling me that I was under achieving and I'm not even Dyslexic, so god knows what pressure that people with Dyslexia get bestowal on them, well done to Amy Jade for not letting the pressure get to you, but a lot of people (Dyslexic or not) cannot handle the pressure.
I won't get into dyslexia because I admit I'm not qualified to talk or speculate about it but I'm sorry, comments like "I'd want to die if I didn't have boobs" do just display a genuine ignorance and narcissism that is very worrying. It's like someone said on another thread her emotional immaturity is pretty staggering and a view like that can be quite damaging. I'd also be pretty concerned about her daughter's education that she seems quite set on home schooling her herself which really does not seem like adequate education. I know her daughter is only 3 right now but she seemed to be implying it was something she was going to be continuing with for a while, and she says she can't afford to send her to school when education is free to every child - even 3 year olds are eligible for free early education. The things she comes out with are just baffling in so many ways which extends beyond a learning difficulty

Tbf how many women would really want to go through life without boobs? I think you're being harsh there MTVN.
And I feel like I've learned more since I've left School than when I was actually in School, mainly due to the Internet though.
You never really leave School though I suppose as you always learn new things/have to learn new things.

You'd just think that someone with the body issues that she has had would be a bit more sympathetic about it all, rather than making out anyone who has doesn't have massive breasts is leading a life not worth living. Some people are naturally quite flat chested, some women are forced to have mastectomys, its crazy for her to claim that you need boobs to be fulfilled in life. It's no doubt the same thinking of hers which meant she encouraged her daughter to have a boob job as well when she didn't want one - that ain't right Mock.

I'm not saying that her attitude is right, I'm just saying that in most normal female interactions with each other and one of them got asked would you want to go through life without your boobs? What do you think their answer would be? It wouldn't be deliberately mean to the women that are flat chested or had a Mastectomy, it's just that it wouldn't be their ideal thing to have happen to them and it would be hard to adjust to I would imagine.

Alicia had one thing that made her feel accepted (as far as she's concerned) and that's a nice body and a once pretty face. In desperation to keep that acceptance going she got body dysmorphia which in time reeked havoc on her looks. Her breasts are still an important asset for her, as they are for many women. Some women with breast cancer have to go through counselling because, as crazy as this may sound, for many women, losing breast tissue is worse than the cancer itself.

Why not? Narcissism is just an obsession with your own image and vanity, I'm guessing you would say she isn't narcissistic because she's quite mentally fragile and not that confident in herself but that doesn't preclude narcissism

lol I'm not here to take either side but I have to point out that SHE herself said she learnt the Alphabet within the last 3 years, implying she only just got around to learning them, not that she couldn't learn them due to dyslexia. I don't necessarily think she's thick though just not taught properly. It's a sad truth that there are still many adult men and woman who struggle to read and write and it's institutions we should be pointing our fingers at. I'm not saying they are the root cause mind you because lazy people do exist but Alicia doesn't strike me as lazy because shes trying her best for her kid/s

I think Luisa was spot on, during BOTS.
She said she doesn't understand why Alicia is ridiculed, as she can't afford to send her child to school, and takes her own time to help her and teach, even though she isn't exactly the most intelligent person.
She then made a spot on point about how mothers would usually just dismiss the problem and leave their children uneducated.

There is a whole lot more to Narcissistic personality disorder than self obsession. If any one of us went down the long list of Narcissistic character traits, every one of us would tick off a few boxes but those few boxes are meaningless.
No I'm not saying she isn't narcissistic because she's mentally fragile. Mental fragility is very much a trait of a narcissist.

I totally agree with you Kaz:
I don’t hate Alicia Douvall, nor even dislike her, but it is my opinion that she is the most cunning, devious, fake, manipulating game-player in the house.
She attended the “top boarding school in the country” and has had the guile and intelligence to forge a career out of nothing, form and run a business, and earn great amounts of money and make herself famous, yet she continues to play the uneducated 'dim', dumb blond role.
We have only her word that she suffers from Dyslexia because the link provided only leads to an article in which Alicia is merely quoted as saying that she suffers from Dyslexia, which is like saying;
“I’m a Martian, but if you don’t believe me, here is a statement signed by me in which I state that I’m a Martian.”
She attended a Surrey boarding school which is the 'top' one in the country so can we presume that she hails from a wealthy background and from the type of family who would call in specialist doctors if their child started to display any kind of learning difficulties? I would think as much, which confuses me as to why she 'struggled' through most of her life with her affliction undiagnosed.
As an unmarried mum she went into a hostel when her business failed, and again 'struggled'. So dare I ask why her wealthy family did not rally around their daughter and support her?
If anyone has any real proof at all that she is, indeed, suffering from dyslexia, in the form of articles about her being professionally diagnosed as suffering from it, or similar, then I will apologise, but I’m afraid that my own strong opinion is that she does not suffer from dyslexia, or from slow thought processes, and that she is playing the game which she has played for a long time on reality shows.
Joey Essex has become very wealthy and very famous playing the totally dim idiot which is a huge exaggeration of his real self - a caricature if you like - but Joey has a cheeky gleam in his eye whilst doing so, and does not really expect us to swallow his act.
By contrast, Alicia, is trying so very hard to convince us to accept whichever role she is playing at the moment, which - having already played the bullied victim role - is now the bullied, 'dim' and unlearned' because of my misunderstood affliction' role.
I can't accept it, because I have witnessed many incidents in the house where she has not only displayed great mental awareness, but also a good standard of knowledge, in addition to an above average ability to rationalise, and even philosophise. All of which is in direct contradiction to some members claims on here that she is genuinely just ‘a bit slow on the uptake’, and ‘a bit behind the others due to her learning difficulties’ etc.
For example: when Alicia was seated with some others she asked; “What is 8 x 8”, then instantly reproached Katie H when she answered “64”. Now having posed the question, one can assume that Alicia knew the answer, and reproaching Katie as she did would suggest that she knew that ‘64’ was the correct answer, which support that assumption.
Now all this makes a nonsense of any claim that Alicia is dim or slow, even though she quickly tried to cover her ‘faux pas’ by quickly claiming that she “didn’t know the answer” – an act which in itself proves excellent agility of mind.
Again, when Alicia was seated with the two Katies, with Keith, Kav and Callum in close attendance, and they were discussing food, Alicia described Coke as: ‘pure man-made synthetic chemicals’ – implying a decent vocabulary and a good command of English, as well as a degree of knowledge. She went on to say to Katie H: “If you researched just what was in your bread” – which again implies learnt (acquired) knowledge, if not even that she herself had researched what ‘was in bread’. Either way, it suggests an ability to absorb, understand, and store and recall data, and contradicts any notion that there is anything wrong with her mental faculties.
During the same conversation, she even exhibited a great ability to rationalise and philosophise, and displayed very quick cognitive thought processing when Kav said; “What about people who live to be 80 odd and eat what they want to?" and she very quickly explained; “We’re a new generation so people who are 60, 70, 80, ate natural food because ....they had no choice.” And also: “We are the new generation of microwave meals, synthetic foods, and that’s why we’re all ill”.
I realise that there are many forms of Dyslexia, and that suffering from it does not automatically render someone as unintelligent, or as slow or dumb, but it is Alicia herself who claims to be dyslexic and she herself who has portrayed herself as ‘a little bit slow’ because of it.
I’m sorry but I do not buy into any of it.

Its been widely reported that Calum had a relationship with her previously. If she was different now from then, I think he would have called her out as being fake. I also think its a bit rich for him to be ridiculing her for being slow given he has had that previous relationship. I would much rather she was saved than him

We have only her word that she suffers from Dyslexia because the link provided only leads to an article in which Alicia is merely quoted as saying that she suffers from Dyslexia, which is like saying;

Such a shame she wasn't given more attention when she was younger.
I wonder if she has ever been diagnosed or if she has self diagnosed.
Took years for my daughter to get her diagnosis, schools were not really interested or capable at the time.
I have an older sister, now in her 60s who has it. She had dreadful time at school duriing the 50s&60s, and was eventually put in a special school for subnormal children! Fortunately for her we had caring (but poor)parents who took her out of it and set up an apprenticeship with textile firm. where she trained and became a very skilled seamstress, a job she continued with until retirement a couple years ago. She was eventually diagnosed in her mid forties
when she went to adult literacy classes to try and improve things, the class helped her a lot. I think its disgraceful that Alicias shool/parents didnt do anything for her.
