No. So many people get pissy on the internet about this stuff and they need to get a life.

Obviously if they like painted their faces black or something to 'go' with the costume, then that would be a little distasteful, but really, IMO people are getting waaaay to arsey with this stuff.

I feel the same, but so many seemed to be saying it's wrong I was wondering if I was the only one not bothered by it.

Its because of this new trend on the internet (I blame tumblr, mainly). Its where 13 - 15 year olds see what they can find to be 'oppresive' and 'offensive' and its like a ****ing competion or something. It's so pathetic.

Hopefully these people will grow out of it and step out into the real world. Maybe they'll realise that life isn't as 'oppresive' as they want it to be.

I don't find it racist in the slightest. You get halloween costumes like that :conf2: it's just dressing up like their culture. You aren't being derogative.

This world is too serious these days. You can't do anything without it being labelled offensive

I soooooo-oooo agree Caitlin. This B.S. is really becoming more than tedious, I think it's time to call in the men in white coats with a strait jacket for morons who keep screaming 'racist' or 'sexist' or 'ageist' or 'homophobic' or 'xenophobic' and a plethora of other '-ics', at innocuous things.

'Get a fecking life' indeed.

I was beginning to feel the same. That it must be racist but I just wasn't seeing it. And as lostalex highlighted, if we start going down that road, pretty soon the clothes people can wear will be very limited.

I personally don't, but if someone of that culture found it offensive I could understand why, I don't really think it's for individuals to judge what's gonna be offensive to a minority

I can see where you're coming from, but these days people use things as an excuse to be offended by anything... I've already mentioned that I've got native American in my family, yet I'm not offended by this.

I'm Scottish and American, two of the worst portrayed places on the media. Do I get upset when I see people wearing those ginger hats and kilts and taking the piss? No, because I can see why it's humorous. People are too serious these days and it pisses me off so much. If someone dressed up as a fat person and said 'I'm dressed up as an american lmao xo' I would probably roll my eyes but I'd also laugh too. People take things the wrong way imo.

It's not like people intentionally go out and dress up as Indians because they think it will upset people.

Why don't we all just advocate banning the wearing of all 'Fancy Dress', and closing down all Fancy Dress Hire shops and manufacturers?

Clown's outfits are highly offensive to people with unkempt red hair, as well as those poor mite's with big feet, and also to anyone whose nose goes red in winter - not to mention any poor citizen named 'Bozo', 'Bobo', or 'Coco', and those who like wearing loud checked jackets.

How about insensitive twots who don Batman outfits - is this really fair to bats, to have to witness humans running through the streets - Del Boy style - singing; "Nanna Nanna Nanna Nanna --- Batman" and taking the piss?

FFS - 'Racism' - Where does it end?

You come home from a night out and interrupt a 3' 6" tall black burglar robbing your house and he runs off.

Cop: "Can you give us a description? Please remember that you must not use any type of descriptor which could be construed as offensive because to do so could result in you being arrested and charged."
You: "Errr.... It wasn't a woman. Is it Ok to say that?
Cop: "Yes, if you do not mean it in a sexist manner.
You: He wasn't very tall - (panicking) I don't mean that he was a dwarf, a midget, or short, oh no please don't think that.
Cop: "Go on."
You: "Err. His complexion didn't look pink. It wasn't err, very light looking.

FFS - it was a 3' 6" fecking midget blackman.

Yeah, that's what I mean, re; the Scottish and American thing, if you're not offended, because it's your culture it's not a problem, if actual native Americans were offended then you can see why there would be a problem.

It's mainly people online, who have no right to get offended over things, who do get offended, like (gags is a good example here so don't Yall shoot me down for bringing her into this) when she wore a niqab, people like Niall who are white as milk were going off on one on tumblr saying "omfg this is so racist/this is disgusting/she is trash" then there were actually people who wear niqabs as part of their culture who were like "wtf are you talking about, this is really ****ing cool that a pop star is embracing our culture"

I think at the end of that day, it's down to the people who are part of the culture being mimicked that have the right to be offended, not everyone else

Yeah that's true, I don't think people should be offended because Imitation is the greatest form of flattery but it's not really our place to say whether a native American should be or not

Think it could have been made an issue because attitude to native Americans is quite topical atm. The Washington Redskins NFL team have been under a lot of pressure to change their name because it could be seen as offensive and even the logo has come in for controversy

https://androidmarket.googleusercontent.com/android/market/com.dankei.redskinslwpro/hi-256-0-69942a00c1497604eb055d42a5dc311cad3fdf6b

It's been happening across American sports apparently, there's quite a lot of teams with native American nicknames like 'Chiefs', 'Indians', 'Blackhawks', 'Braves' etc. who have been gradually dropping their native imagery. I guess this would be in line with those pressures, I wouldn't have thought it offensive but then it isn't really for me to say, if nothing else because I'm not American so it's not really a discussion I need to be involved in
