View Full Version : Should this game be banned?
This is the trailer for new game Hatred. Warning: it contains pretty full on violence:
http://youtu.be/qV3PhvCf_Jg
Hatred has the player take on the role of a psycopathic seriel killer, who's soul aim is to destroy as many people's lives as he can so that he can ultimately die violently himself.
Is this too much? Where do you stand on the violence in video games created real life violence argument? Or is this just too far on the wrong side of common decency?

No it shouldn't be banned. It's looks like a pile of **** that is trying too hard to be controversial.

Na i don't think it should
It's apparently only the 2nd ever game to receive an Adults Only rating in the USA. The other being Manhunt.

I'll start by saying the concept of the game sounds ridiculous
I'm a fan of violent games but this looks pretty horrible, with games like COD, GTA, L4D, Resident Evil etc. They have actual enemies who are trying to kill you which means you have to kill them first. This game is about killing innocent people who are begging for mercy, I know you can kill innocent people on GTA but it's not mandatory in order for you to complete the game as oppose to this.
Should it be banned? No, because there are people who would enjoy playing this. Each to their own I guess

Was just about to say the same thing
No video game/movie/work of fiction should ever be banned. Censorship is not the answer.

People should always be allowed the freedom and escapism when it comes down to video gaming. It looks tragic and gross and looks like it would get boring in a hurry as well. I shall stick with little big planet. But nah, if people want to play it then let them go for it.

At the end of the day it is just a video game, so no it should not be banned. Freedom of expression allows mature games of this nature to be made. Regardless of content it is still just a videogame.
I would question more the marketing of these adult games to minors and how the law allows these types of games to fall into the wrong hands.
Banning them per se is not the solution.

There is nothing there that you couldn't see in any number of movies.
Banning things because a few people might find them offensive is a slippery road to go down.

It shouldn't be banned, It looks terrible and I doubt many people will play it anyway.
Video games are incapable of inciting real life violence. People who go out and kill in cold blood don't do so because they played GTA and they would have done so regardless. It enrages me when games, films, TV ETC are blamed for real life violence because doing that creates a scapegoat. People who advocate the idea that games can be responsible for real life violence are pretty much absolving killers of blame. It's just ****ing dumb.

My fault Ben - I called Rob Ben. It's an easy mistake to make; both words have 3 letters, they're both male names, and both have a letter 'B' at the beginning or the end, and both have a vowel in the middle........

Meh. Been playing InFamous Second Son recently... if you choose the "evil" path, you kill a ****tonne of "innocent people" for literally no reason at all. Your character isn't angry or hateful or anything. You just sometimes randomly fry passers by just because they happened to be there. Or they might get caught in the crossfire and be lying on the ground injured so you just sort of... kick them through the air so that they die. Simply because it's funny.
Plus, who HASN'T deliberately tried to drag a pedestrian under a car for as long as possible in GTA? Or deliberately starved / drowned an irritating "Sim"?
It's just a game. Psychopathic killers will be psychopathic killers without games. Normal people will not be turned into psychopaths BY games. There's not really much more to it than that... it's not "dangerous", it just offends some people, and that shouldn't be a reason to ban something. Je Suis Hatred.

To be honest the only outrage here should be at how laughably angsty the trailer (and main character) is. Was it written by a 12 year old after having their internet allowances cut off by their mum? It's like someone took an Alan Moore graphic novel and removed all of the style.

Surely it's supposed to be a joke?
I actually think the game looks kind of awesome :joker:. I mean, I wouldn't pay full whack for it or anything, but as a throwaway indie-style £9.99 weekend game I think it looks like a bit of daft fun

This. You can't blame games/tv/movies for everything. People were killing other people in cold blood long before electricity was even invented.
