View Full Version : Should the Ignore feature be removed?

I personally feel that it stifles debate, and instead of using it on members that are harassing you, or are being exceptionally annoying, there are some members (that shall remain nameless) that are putting people on Ignore because the other person has a different opinion to them, it's quite a childish way to avoid a debate for some people imo.
Does anyone agree with me on this? And if you disagree then why do you disagree with me on this?
Nope, plenty of members make use of the feature and it's up to them who they want to ignore.

I do TRY not to ignore people as I was brought up to know it's very bad mannered , however the ignore button should stay as some people need it as they get offended easily, and some posts just go too far.

I definitely understand that it has it's uses, but I do feel that maybe a cap on how many people can be put on Ignore or something, because there are some members this year that are just abusing it because they can't handle differing opinions.

I go on a good few forums but have never used the "ignore" button on any of them. If I don't want to read what someone posts I just skip over their posts.
I can understand why some people would choose to use it, especially on trolls and stalker types. Saying that, using it to block someone who doesn't agree with you on a topic seems a bit OTT. I guess some people don't know how to debate and take differing opinions as a personal attack.

I think it's less of a case of differing opinions and more not liking the way the opinions are put across/people getting personal with their opinions, i for one don't mind having a debate, which is pretty clear, but i don't want to have to see people getting personal or taking low shots to put their opinions across, that's what i base my ignore list on... that and plain annoyances

Nope but I wish it could be updated so that it actually ignores people (the 'xxxx has posted and is on your ignore list' and seeing quoted posts is silly)..I'm sure someone posted a way to do that once actually...
Also people who constantly talk about their ignore list should be removed IMO. Its easy enough to ignore someone without telling them you are putting them on ignore or having a big obvious convo about 'how to ignore someone' right after a disagreement with another member...its baiting really

Well I've been put on Ignore for that reason by a certain member that I know for definite.
And I know that there are certain members putting each other on Ignore just because they're Perez or Hopkins fans.

Well, that might not be such a bad move tbh, it's getting pretty brutal, this Team Perez/Team Katie H rivalry

Yeah James posted an addon for a browser that does that Vicky
Also I completely agree with you about the second comment, it's 'your' ignore list so keep it to yourself, what possible reason would you have to bring it up unless it was to annoy the people that you are saying you are ignoring...

That's fair enough, rude posters, and really annoying members I can understand.
You and Vanessa imo have valid reasons for yours, it's just that people bragging about their Ignore list getting bigger just because these members have a different opinion to them is pathetic imo, it's a case where I feel that the system is being abused.

Yes, I have never used it and never will. On a public forum?
dont make me laugh, grow a pair and get on with it or leave
I use it during on-season, but only because I know without it I'd just end up having rows whenever certain people post. So it's useful for argumentative sods like me.
