View Full Version : How much more are you willing to let the producers get away with?

Over years the fundamentals of Big Brother have disappeared and the producers do more and more to take the show away from reality and closer to constructed drama.
For example; not being able to watch 24/7, inconsistencies with nominations, more contact from the outside world, producers giving housemates immunity without any sort of vote (e.g. Perez's secret task), housemates being evicted with no public vote, housemates like Rylan being allowed to leave for rehearsals, members of production using cue cards during tasks, Katie Price having visits from hairdressers, Patsy getting fake tans and now apparently Perez being stopped from leaving and being told he's getting high ratings for the series.
I'd assume most hardcore fans don't like that these things happen and, let's be honest, the things we know about are probably just the tip of the iceberg.
My question to those of you who still watch is what would be the final straw? What could the producers do that would actually make you think ok that's enough, things have gone too far and I'm not going to watch anymore. Or will you continue to watch BB if it's still on no matter how unrecognisable the show becomes and how much of a farce it is?

The only thing the producers can do badly for me is choose dull housemates just let them be without playing with their emotions.
Anything which increases drama and tension is fine by me.
I understand that as an entertainment show the executives have to do certain things to increase the viewing figures. They have to give more desirable celebrities certain concessions. It's also in the interest of entertainment to keep certain housemates in the house and get others out.

It was entertaining in the end. That's all that really matters.

I don't really watch TV, Celebrity Big Brother and The Apprentice is all I watch so to be honest, they'd have to really **** up for me to not tune in.
I think I like Celebrity Big Brother mostly because it is pretty much the only reality show (except BB and IAMCGMOOH which I'm bored of) so giving them scripts would turn me off for good. Getting rid of the public vote would also make me switch off but they could probably get away with most things with me, I get frustrated when they show obvious signs of bias like sticking Perez in a secret room for literally no reason but not frustrated enough to boycott the show.
They've made a brilliant show average but thats still better than every other show on TV and its still good enough for me for another year at least

After Perez The MORON disclosed what a producer told him. It now makes sense why they staged his walkout put him out of the way. Also why they let him get away with more than any other housemate ever. Media Maxim. "CONTROVERSRY SELLS" :hehe:
I won't be putting the time in on the civilian series if it is filled with the same type of wannabees as last year.
My threshold is when I stop enjoying it, and its been a close run thing a couple of times this series

I hope Perez tells everything. That will teach them to manipulate things!

So your not a fan of the show?
fans of the show should want the truth to come out. If it is proved that the producers have been meddling rather than just hearsay it will force them to rethink
However, its in the final year of it contract anyway, maybe Channel 5 don't care

Of course the producers stopped Perez from leaving. So what? What Perez has carefully omitted to say is HOW they stopped him.
But it is patently obvious that they must have said: "You walk and we don't pay you a penny".
Unsubtle but effective. Lol! ;)

Big Brother on Channel 5 is the absolute definition of trashy reality tv, long gone are the days where it could even vaguely be referred to as a social experiment. I'm still against producer manipulation in general, it does suck, but to be honest it's not 'shocking' to me when something like the Perez situation comes out because I practically expect it these days. I haven't watched a full series start to finish in over 2 years, I always get bored and give up halfway through and this year has been no exception so I can't really answer the question as to what would turn me away for good. I'm pretty bored of Big Brother now and that's not just because of the producer manipulation, it's because I personally just don't think it's very good anymore. Rubbish tasks, rubbish twists, rubbish Marcus shouting over everything, rubbish Rylan/BOTS, rubbish baying mob desperate for blood every Friday, there's just so much negativity surrounding the show now and I don't get much enjoyment from it anymore. I'll probably always hang round for the first few weeks but a series would have to have amazing housemates for me to stick with it the whole way through these days. I've found the new BBCanada to be infinitely more entertaining, that's definitely my 'first choice' Big Brother now.
You do realise it could mean the show is axed for good?
True 'fans' of the show would despise the new direction Big Brother has gone in and would want the 'truth' to come out to hopefully embarrass the producers into returning the show to more of it's roots in the future (though it's unlikely to happen anyway). Producer manipulation almost certainly wouldn't get a show axed as long as Perez wasn't held captive like a prisoner against his will, multiple tv programmes have been found to be manipulating and ignoring public votes and even practically all of them don't get axed, they just have to pay a hefty fine. At best it would turn off some of the dedicated viewers but that probably wouldn't make much difference anyway as CBB is largely made up of casuals.

I'm giving BB16 a go, if we have the same thing again of a vile bully being protected (Perez this series, Helen in BB15) then I'm done with the show. It has got to the point these days where as a dedicated fan it's becoming draining to remain interested in a show that throws its manipulation right at you.
Participating on a forum like this is hard too. I love reading peoples opinions and getting dug into threads myself, although people seem to take the show way too seriously and the amount of trolling and personal insults on here this series have been disgusting.
Of course it's just a show and this is just a forum, neither of which are forced on myself or anyone else. Although as someone who has always loved being on forums and has been a dedicated fan of Big Brother for over a decade it sadly is getting to a point where enough is enough.
I couldn't stop watching because I still enjoy the show, however I'm not impressed by the producers meddling and manipulation. To be honest, it was even more blatant with Helen last year than with Perez this year.
However, there's also a part of me that wonders what we don't know about the Channel 4 era of the show and things that went on behind the scenes there too. Perhaps we were all just naive.
Excellent thread OP. I think that's the reason I haven't been able to fully watch a season since BB14 (so all the celebrity ones and BB15). Yes, BB14 had manipulation too but i'm just so tired of it now. It's like so many of the fundamental purposes and values of the show are taken away. What made BB special was that it was different from other reality TV shows, or at least seemed to be. Now that this aspect is slowly being taken away, it may boost the show for a bit, but ultimately I see it killing it.

Oh for goodness sake! How has this thread escalated to this?!?!
The programme has to abide by strict legal guidelines. Entertainment attorneys are working round the clock for channel 5 ensuring licensing rules never get breached. When a dodgy or incorrect statement is presented in a broad sheet, its not the journalist who gets raked over the coals, its the publisher and that newspaper is thrown into disrepute. Its the same with television; whilst CBB would get a bad reputation, Channel 5 would be heavily fined and their licensing would come into question.
I'm sure there were some discrepancies but nothing illegal happened here.
Personally I've enjoyed this series and I stopped watching CBB a while back because it was tedious. I like what they are doing and believe CBB and BB needed to evolve if it was going to remain popular viewing. Clearly its worked.

It's only on internet forums that people agonise about alleged conspiracies etc. But we are only a small proportion of the viewing public.

As you are entitled to your opinion, i am entitled to mine. If the show is a fake scripted abomination then it should be advertised as such. I also stand by my opinion that if they are going to misinterpret housemates and manipulate events to their own ends then it should be shut down. Perfectly valid opinion
thank you.

much ado about nothing, there was less production interference than most years, perez being convinced to stay is a non story, they do that for everyone. if perez had been voted 'safe to the final' that would be the controversy....instead its that they forced him to stay...

You have a right to complain to OFCOM if you wish. Maybe the police as you have indicated that you believe fraud has been committed. Other than those options or switching off, I'm not really sure what can be done?

I don't know if fraud has been committed, but I won't be watching any further manipulation, that is correct. Not my cup of tea. It wont take much viewing of the civilian series to see if its continuing along the same path, if it is, i will switch off

Don't like the producers. Very anti Men. Openly make fun of guys penis size, allows old gay men to act like massive pervs towards young straight men, but if old straight man does the same its frowned upon. double standards all the way

It's also in the interest of entertainment to keep certain housemates in the house and get others out.
I can understand this for CBB but when it comes to the regular series this seems unfair. There's a large cash prize so it's essentially a game show and therefore producers giving certain people an advantage or disadvantage isn't fair. For example if the producers of who wants to be a millionaire purposely gave someone a load of easy questions because it would be entertaining if they won then that would be unacceptable.
