Discuss. Are you one of those (women generally :idc:) who books their appointment ages in advance at a ridiculous price and treats it like a big event, or do you just rock along whenever to the nearest and cheapest place for a quick trim. Do you enjoy making small talk with the person cutting your hair as well or prefer it to be quiet.

I'm a pretty conservative person in general so like to stick to what I know, always go to the same old boy. Know what you're getting there; average haircut, average price, average conversation. If I'm at Uni though then I'll just try and find somewhere that looks like a simple back street joint rather than any poncey 'male grooming salon' like half the places seem to be these days.

I have a friend from Uni who is a hairdresser, right now she is the only person who gets to do anything with my hair when it needs doing.

I usually go about twice a year to get highlights and a cut, my hairdresser used to have her own salon but now she works from home so she's way cheaper than a salon. I usually decide to get my hair done at the last minute before I'm going out somewhere, last time I left it too late so had to go to a different hairdresser and that cost me :fist: I would rather people didn't make too much small talk with me when I'm getting my hair done, I prefer to read a magazine while I'm there. It's always the same chit chat too, "Are you off on holidays anywhere" etc etc

I just go to a regular barbers, have a regular cut and usually don't speak at all. Having hair cut is a quick affair for me, I like to pop in and pop out.

My hairdresser comes to the house very 4/5 weeks, she has been coming here about 18 years or so.
We talk about anything and everything, normally sit and have a coffee once she is finished.
Great girl.

I cut my own hair standing semi naked outside in all weathers (like the weekend just gone). I put a big mirror on the back wall and off I go. Smallest boy LT i wait for a windy day and then put him out the front on a wee wooden chair with a towel around him.

I've been to the same barbers about 3-4 times a year for the last 6 years and he still doesn't remember me every time I go.

We go through the exact same conversation each time of him asking where I'm from, what I do etc etc. So ****ing rude.

Yep, that's me. I recently changed where I go because I found somewhere much cheaper (not as close, but still close), and they do just as good a job.

Though, they do seem to always short change me by a penny (yes, a whole penny!!), but it's still cheaper than my old place by a few quid so I don't really care.

I don't instigate the conversation, but I'm happy for them too. It is awkward when we're totally silent when the other customers are chatting away with the person cutting their hair, so I do prefer to talk, but I'll always wait for them to start.

Speaking of barbers, I remember one time I was waiting (this was at my last place), I looked down and realised that whoever was sitting there before me had left the newspaper open on Page 3. I wanted to close it so it didn't look like I was the one who opened it, but was paranoid that someone would look at me at precisely the wrong time and think I'd just opened it, so I left it and tried to ignore the awkwardness of having a paper opened on a nude woman right in front of me. :umm2:

And no, I couldn't even secretly enjoy the situation because I'm gay, there was literally nothing beneficial for me. :idc:

I always use the same hairdresser and the salon is always busy so have to phone/text her about a week before when I want the appointment.

If I want just a haircut/blowdry/style then it costs me £36.50 if I'm getting my highlights done then it's £49.50.

That's a big drop from when I was a few years younger and it used to cost me (well my parents lol) £79

Also I know my hairdresser well so we have a small chat for a while then I read magazines or my book and have a cup of tea.

:joker: amazing, find it really hard to find anywhere doing less than a tenner round where I am, £7 is the cheapest I know of but I'd prefer to stick with the bloke I know who is a tenner. Today a quick trim cost £12 which was a joke, certainly wasn't getting any tip for that

Well you can't compare a man going into the barber for a haircut with a woman going in to get highlights and a cut, they're completely different, it takes 2-3 hours to get highlights and a cut done

Cost me £7 which is pretty cheap compare to most barbers in my area.

I sat in a salon in Cardiff when my other half had his hair cut and a woman in there paid £215 for her hair  She had some kind of fancy treatment done including hair cut and colour, but it honestly looked nothing special and if I saw her walking down the street I would guess she spent £40 on her hair at most.

Usually costs about a fiver so it's not bad. My old barber died so a Korean guy cuts it now. He doesn't make small talk which is good.

My uncle use to always cut my hair until I discovered his friend who worked at the same place. She got me a job at the salon too. After a while I was bored of paying 20 dollars and learned to cut my own hair. I've been doing it for almost a year now.

Been going to the same old bloke up the road for as long as i can remember, its only about £10 for a quick trim, nothing fancy. After hearing the stories of Locke spending 4 hours in the bathroom cutting his own hair before a night out and getting his mum to do it for him because he made a complete mess of it i decided to get my own hairdressers clipping set half price on amazon for £17. Cut my own hair for the first time a few weeks ago and it was piss easy, took a while to do the back after having to take down half the mirrors in the house to arrange them all so i could get a 360 degree view though. That'll save me a good £40-60 a year and i can now style it however i want.

Conversation with barber exactly repeats last one

A MAN’S bi-monthly conversation with his barber was word-for-word the same as the one two months ago.

The 25-minute dialogue covered the cold weather, Chelsea’s dominance in the league and modern music in an exact replication of December’s dialogue.

Warehouse manager Stephen Malley, who has been asking for the same haircut in the same words since his father taught him them 20 years ago, proclaimed himself happy with the haircut, the conversation and the rare opportunity to look at the back of his own head.

He said: “It’s always nice to catch up, and by catch up I mean repeat exactly the same banalities that we’ve been rehearsing for years.

“The pause before he asked about my holiday plans seemed a millisecond longer than usual, but like a true professional he appeared to remember absolutely nothing of what I’d told him last time.

“I’m already looking forward to doing it all again in April.”

Barber Wayne Hayes said: “I dunno. I was happy with it, but I wonder about sticking to my tried-and-true set as opposed to trying some fresh material.

“Just sometimes I’d like to talk about quantum entanglement or dogs.”
