Do you like to tip in restaurants to show off or is it because you feel social pressure not to be a skinflint?
Do you tip taxi drivers for no apparent reason?
Do you like supplementing peoples wages in order that their bosses coin it in?
How do you feel about this odious pastime?

I tip taxi drivers usually to the nearest quid as its just easier. I tip more if they help me in with shopping and that though because tbh that isn't part of their job and its very helpful
i tip baristas and waiter/resses yes
but its just a token of kindness and thanks

I tip my hairdresser (a couple of quid extra)
Waiter/waitress (a couple of quid if service is good)
I used to buy the postie a bottle of wine for Christmas as he always left packages in a safe place.
I suppose i see it as good manners, and the wages used to be rubbish for hairdressers and waiters/waitresses, but now the minimum wage has come in, we're all in the same boat wage wise, so i suppose it is a bit daft to be tipping when someone is getting the same wage, i mean, carers don't get tipped do they? Or shop assistants etc.

I donīt usually. But then again i donīt really eat at restaurants. And i donīt carry cash at hand anymore, so tipping would be quite... troublesome.
Also in Finland, tips are taxable income, so iīm not sure it would do any good to the getter.

I never tip unless I've received exceptional service (which is very rare anyway) or when I'm in another country where is expected.

I only tip when we've been out for food, and only if they've been really nice servers :)
Yes I do unless it's not been good service.
Waiters/Waitresses
Taxi Drivers (rarely use taxi's though)
Hairdresser
Nail Technician
And then any workmen, delivery men etc I give them either some cans of beer or a few quid.

Yes.
Hairdresser, taxi, waitress etc.
Hardworking people on lower wages deserve a treat.

No **** it, it's such an american thing that is completely unnecessary around here. like Vicky, the closest i'd get is paying the taxi lad to the nearest quid. if i was tipping in restaurants i'd be as well to tip people who serve me in Mcdonalds too

I love tipping, i think of it like charity. I think the government should give you a tax rebate for tipping just like they do for donating to charities.
