BBC Radio 1's Official Chart Show could move from its usual Sunday slot, following changes to music release dates.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) announced today (February 26) that all albums and singles will be released at 12.01am on Fridays around the world from later this year.

The Official Charts Company has stated that it will now "also be looking to move the UK chart announcement day".

"Exact details are to be decided, but Radio 1 will continue to be the home of the Official Chart."

The majority of new releases come out on Mondays in the UK, with the chart finalised at midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

The changes would mean that a Thursday chart announcement would fairly reflect the week's best-sellers.
