A defiant father-of-ten who has had his Christmas lights up for almost five months is refusing to take them down despite being branded a 'pikey'.
Kevin Franklin had lights put up in November after he had a stroke
Father-of-ten from Dunstable kept them up for his autistic son Bradley
Irate neighbour sent him poison-pen letter calling his family 'pikeys'
Note said: 'I don't want to keep driving past this eyesore. I know you live in a council house but there's no need to make it look like one'
Mr Franklin say he will put even more lights up to raise money for charity
He said: 'We're going to make sure the house is covered and really give them something to whine about'

Ok, Christmas lights up in March is ridiculous but no excuse for the personal attack in the letter.
Perhaps this disgruntled citizen should focus on real problems.

Oh - I am so relieved... phew! I misread it as: "Christmas lights up in Marsh"
I thought it was some kind of new festive anal-bead thing.

My father in laws xmas lights have been up (but not on) for 2 years now. He never took them down because it took like 2 days to put them up  Noone has ever complained, but then again he doesn't live in a council house so isn't an easy target I guess

Is his house covered in Santa's?
I have a neighbour who leaves her lights up all year round but they're just simple ones along the roof edge and around her porch so you don't really notice them when they're not switched on the rest of the year.

Pretty much. He even has the gigantic blow up snowmen and stuff right on his roof (though obviously they are flat when not turned on). Some of them arent noticeable when not on, but a lot are and hes never had one complaint.
He does his house like that because he lives right in the middle of the high street...and gateshead council are seriously **** with the xmas lights..you are lucky to get a piddly couple down the whole street and even then they tend to blow in a few days. So his house is kinda...the xmas spirit of the whole town.

Blurgh! I'd put more up, and blast out jingle bells all day, and dress as santa mooning at passing cars.

Tacky and naff.
However, it's his house, if I lived opposite I would shut the blinds 24/7.
I do love lights though, anytime of the year.

Each to their own, they are just lights after all and maybe the family should do what Kizzy suggested and put even more up :D The garden's is very well kept. I think some are not happy unless they have something to complain about, probably just looking down their noses at the family. There are more serious things to worry about going on in the world than lights on a house.
Call me cynical but how do we know he didn't do that himself or get someone to write it? The kids 'screaming' as they drive by seems ridiculously far fetched and the language looks to me like an awful attempt at coming across as a snob.

I love Christmas and leave my lights as long as possible. They brighten up the gloomy weather in January/February. But I've never left them til March. Still so long as he's footing his own electricity bill and not the taxpayer, then good luck to him.
