Should C&G be private members viewing only?

So following this thread (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/showthread.php?t=222747) where the general concensus was a yes, I thought I'd make a poll and hopefully admin will consider it (again) to try and stop drama kicking off


So basically C&G would be a members ony area, and guests wouldn't be able to view the threads in them, seeing as most newbies post in the BB section straight away I doubt many of them would even notice before signing up, I think people would be more comfortable with personal issues on here too knowing it was private

I don't really see why not... it's not a section that guests would need to see anyway, I doubt anyone joins the forum just for that section (unless they've been lured over by existing members). And the point about personal stuff is a fair one... given obvious circumstances...

I was going to mention this too actually.

From a mod perspective, we have asked before for members posts to be moderated until they have 5 posts, or even just for the first post to be moderated, or for accounts to have to be validated by us (so we can check for proxies etc) before they can post

I really do think this is now the time to put that into action

I think the post count thing is a good idea. When it comes down to it, it's a big brother forum, not a chat and games one, so members will be joining for big brother purposes (most likely).

And once they have made enough posts the can enjoy the benefits of other parts of the forum.

There are some previously banned members that lurk through chat and games threads and post when a topic they feel they're relevant too (even when they're not) appears, usually it's attacking forum members or their family members

When you're banned temporarily sometimes you're blocked from seeing the site entirely unless you log out.

I'm quite sure if we do a ban via the control panel they cant see the forum fullstop. However, at the min all it takes it to log out of the banned account and they can see again

As soon as you join you're able to view it, and then after a small amount of posts you'd be allowed to post in there too

I bet 99% of people who joined the site that joined the site posted in the BB/CBB/IAC (whatever show was airing) first before they even looked at C&G

The huge majority of new members (who arent multis or invited here by members) never even know there is a c&g section :laugh: Most of the BB posters only chat about BB, until someone points out the other sections

The Weaves aren't exactly smart or subtle with their multis or in general. With this in place we'd be able to stop them in their tracks a lot quicker and easier although.... if they don't stop they may find that their bullying of others will come with real life ramifications...

You are probably right, the way I view public forums is I never impart any information that I wouldn't want some stranger to use against me, and if I do share my private life and photos with the world and his wife I must be prepared for it at some point to come back and bite me on the ass, lets not be naive here even making the forum private to members only won't solve the problem completely the only way to do that is to keep your private life between you and trusted friends.

I just think,anyone looking in on the forum who may or may not join tibb,overall it would be better for them to be able to see what each section consists of and what they could be coming into as a member.

The thing I have liked about tibb and what attracted me to it in 2010 was the fact you could explore the forum before taking the step to join,
In fact I wasn't going to join tibb when I first found the site, I was only looking in to see what what was being said as to Big Brother in 2010.
the more I explored the forum however and saw all that was available and how open it was to be involved with, that was what I was drawn to.

In reply to the question, I'd say yes, mainly because the new members probably wouldn't even notice they can't access the c&g until they reach 10+ posts or w/e it will be because as most say, the newbies generally post in the bb forums before even discovering c&g so it wouldn't affect their experience and helps to put other members minds at ease if they are sharing photos on the forum.

I can see the other side of the argument, but I think this place would be a much happier/trusting forum if something like this was put into place.

It's not about being that trusting. Obviously it's at people's own risk to start posting pictures.

It's not going to 100% eliminate all problems for the future but it can quite easily nip the current multis in the bud.

Although it is entirely unacceptable and disgusting to use someones' pictures to blackmail them, you can take the precaution and not post them for safety. Of course you should be able to post things without fear of having them used against you, and I hate to say that the victim should have to do anything.. but the only one way to prevent being blackmailed is to not put things out there in the first place.
