Legendary folk singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after reportedly being found unconscious at her L.A. home.

The Canadian musician’s official Twitter account confirmed Mitchell’s hospitalization, saying they’re still awaiting word on her condition.

According to TMZ, paramedics hurried to the singer’s Bel Air residence after receiving a 911 call about an unconscious woman, though she was reportedly alert on the way to the hospital.

The website describes her medical condition as “quite serious.”

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that paramedics responded to an emergency 911 call on Mitchell’s street in Bel Air at about 2:30 on Tuesday, but was unable to confirm her condition.

Her rep could not be reached for comment.

Mitchell is a lifelong smoker who has said in the past that “six decades of smoking have robbed me of my voice.”

The eight-time Grammy winning musician, now 71, is known for songs like “The Circle Game” and “Help Me” and helped define the era of 1960s and ’70s music. Her songs, such as “Big Yellow Taxi” and “River,” have been famously covered over the years.

Unfortunately not an April Fools :( I hope she recovers

Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is "getting stronger each day" after being taken to hospital earlier this week, a statement published on her website says.

The 71-year-old was found unconscious in her Los Angeles home on Tuesday afternoon.

A statement released on her website late on Friday said the singer was "resting comfortably".

It is still not clear what Joni Mitchell is being treated for.

"We are encouraged by her progress and she continues to improve and get stronger each day," the statement said.

In December, Canadian-born Joni Mitchell told Billboard magazine that she had a rare skin condition, Morgellons disease, which prevented her from performing.

"I can't sing any more - don't miss it. I can't play any more - don't miss it. I've got all these instruments laying around and hopefully one day I'll pick them up," she was quoted as saying.

Morgellons is a controversial condition and is not recognised by mainstream medical authorities.

Sufferers say it is characterised by crawling and stinging sensations under the skin but many in the medical community believe it is a psychiatric disorder.

oh good :worry:

I love the gal ... literally she sings my soul... (and is from my city :flutter:)... but me thinks it all boils down to too many drugs in the 60's- 70's

-- or it's a good reason to get a medical marijuana prescription lol

Joni Mitchell is unconscious in a hospital, unable to respond to anyone, with no immediate prospects for getting better.

Joni's close friend of 44 years, Leslie Morris, has just filed legal docs to obtain a conservatorship over the legendary singer. Morris says Joni told her she has no close relatives who could assume the role.

TMZ broke the story, Joni was rushed to the hospital on March 31st, after being found unconscious at her L.A. home. She was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where she remains.

..I really can't read all of those comments at the bottom as if she wasn't here anymore..but someone said that it's only TMZ reporting her in a coma and that she's not at all...

...rows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air and feather canyons everywhere..she looks at clouds that way...
