It's a pretty gross and opportunistic idea. But then, every Alastair impression is pretty nauseating.

I think this a touchy subject to put your face to tbh.

Good luck to them if they approach it maturely, but I think that this is a dangerous idea that could very well backfire on them.

Shaun summed it up: gross and opportunistic. Couldn't have said it better myself.

The writer who also is a reporter
says the time is right.

[Author Jonathan Maitland said people
were 'ready' for the play to be shown less
than three years after the abuse was exposed]

The time is always right for someone to line their pockets. I'm sure the writer has no perception of "too soon" all the time there's a buck to be made.

what parent will let their child go on stage to be fiddled with by Alistair McGowan?

It was debated on Ch5HD AM Live

One on the panel said people will go and see it
as Actors are there to show what people have done.

You can be very against the Evil Sex Crimes
& he did on children
but thats not what you go and see.

What on earth possessed him?.. :/ unless it highlights his establishment 'connections' I can't see a benefit.

Watch the interview
the Director gives a good reason

I was totally against this idea, but having watched Alistair and Jonathan on Marr this mornng I have changed my mind.
Alistair will be the voice of Saville, but not in any way made to look like him so as not to promote his image, the play deals with the facts around the case, the way he manipulated people in high places etc.
I think it will be quite an interesting play to watch, based on the documentation of what has happened and how it was allowed to happen.
Nothing at all to do with glorifying Saville, more to do with informing us to what was going on, Jonathan Maitland thought it would get the message across better than writing a documentary which was his first inclination.

Ah..... I see, however as Savile used the liable laws so will everyone connected too closely at the time so it won't perhaps be much of an expose.
I hope it's not just a retrospective of how grimy things were oop north either, it seems they are handling the retelling as sensitively as possible and it will be interesting to see just how far it goes.
