It references the events of the first Avengers film, I don't think it mentions anything about Ultron though.

Yeah, at first, when they mentioned "the incident", I thought they were just gonna sweep it under the rug, but its quite integral to the plot, just finished the first episode and it's very interesting so far.

I just read the showrunner actually is known for working on Buffy/Angel, it shows, it kinda reminded me of Angel in parts, except without the whole supernatural vampire thing going on, lol.

Edit: Apparently it isnt set after Age of Ultron.

Kingpin is... wow

This is the best superhero for tv done to date.

All the others, Arrow, Flash, Gotham, etc became boring really fast due to having to stay PG, and watering down the story to stretch out the plot.

This was well conceived and put together. Only just finished 4... but I will watch them all, and I recommend it as well.

I have decided after having watched some of these.., (not quite done yet) that Daredevil is prob my fav Marvel Hero. His story is so gritty and his character is so realistically played in this show. I never understood why fans hated the movie version with Ben Affleck so much... but is really doesn't get down to the heart of the character at all.

People should watch this... it is very very good

Locke.

I'm 2 episodes in and really enjoying it, it's a huge upgrade on Arrow (which itself is pretty good).

The fight scenes are so well choreographed, the one at the end of Episode 2 when he goes to rescue the young boy that has been kidnapped was amazing, better than the ones in the superhero movies.

I agree about Ben, but Leland and Wesley sort of had to go as the point in the last couple of episodes was basically that Fisk was slowly having everything stripped away (by the end it was just him and Daredevil brawling it out in an alley) whilst Matt was healing, putting his friendships back together and of course finally gaining "the suit". Anyway, if I had to guess, I'd say S2 will most likely feature a new villain and that Fisk will return in a later season as "proper Kingpin"... so side-characters to Fisk really aren't relevant.

Speaking of "the suit", though, does... does anyone else think it makes him look a little bit... piggy?

What a coincidence this thread just got bumped, I just this minute finished Season 2.

I thought it was great, Season 1 had a great first half but it kind of lost it's way near the end (a sudden change in Showrunner can do that) but S2 is consistently great throughout. Punisher and Elektra were both excellent, Karen's arc was really strong and Charlie Cox has really grown into the lead role. The only part I disliked about this season was Foggy, his character felt like a bit of a spare part.

Shaun
11-04-2016, 01:06 AM
I heard mixed reviews about Elektra, apparently the actress isn't great for the part?

Tom4784

idk that scene seemed way more than was necessary </3 I'm obviously not the biggest fan of gorefests anyway but that was just torture porn.

I'm loving the few episodes after it though.

The hospital invasion and the zombies :flutter:

I can see why people are falling out of love with the show: S1 was focussed on one very human complex bad guy and he was articulate and charming and interesting and had a history, whereas the whole 'The Hand' stuff is arguably frustrating - no one loves a jump from story to mystery :p - but I've really liked Elektra/Stick's characters and whilst atm - on episode 10  - the Hand come off as a bit of a generic "oooh weird secretive asians" device, I can't help but admit it's still compelling.

Oh and I was wetting myself a bit at Claire being in the middle of all of that :worry:

I liked Season 2 more than 1, S1 lost steam after a few episodes and I think we spent TOO much time with Wilson Fisk that we grew to knew him too well. I think his brief appearance in S2 is far more imposing that anything he got to do in S1.

The Hand are a bit boring, yeah I'll admit that but I didn't really care given that I found the main cast really compelling. The Hand are a means to an end really.

Yeah it dragged slightly in the middle for me, I tapped out for a week or so and then started again, turns out I had tuned out just before the Punisher stuff hit full swing, and I agree that from there until the end was brilliant.

That said, I'm not a huge Elektra fan. Bit whiney...

If you like DD I wouldn't be too thankful... I think this is a strong indication that Netflix will lose all of the current Marvel shows fairly soon, especially with Disney setting up their own streaming service, and IMO the shows transferring to that as a continuation of their current form is highly unlikely. Much more likely that they'll be rebooted. On the positive side, I would imagine any reboots will be more heavily integrated with the MCU (the netflix shows, it's really just lip service at this point) but on the minus side, they're likely to be less dark / violent than the Netflix shows and TBH I'm not sure they'll carry on Punisher (because of the extreme and realistic violence) or Jessica Jones (because of all the sex and alcohol) at all. Although they might just clean up the JJ character a bit. But yeah... I think the most likely scenario is that JJ will end after S3, Punisher after S2 and DD might get S4 next year to wrap up and that'll be it for the Netflix Marvel. It would be nice if they'd do a 2nd Defenders to wrap up all of their stories (even just a 6 episode one or something) but that seems unlikely.

Scarlett.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%2B

Disney+ is an upcoming online video streaming subscription service owned and operated by Disney Streaming Services (formerly BAMTech), a subsidiary of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer and International.

The service will launch in the United States in late-2019, and will be focused on film and television content from Walt Disney Studios. Original films and series based on new and existing properties are also planned, including Marvel and Star Wars-based content.

It is set to compete with other video streaming subscription services like Netflix, and will complement Hulu; the launch of Disney+ will coincide with the expiration of a distribution agreement between Disney and Netflix.

Basically Netflix and Disney+ are going to be in (sort of) direct competition as "casual viewers" are unlikely to pay for two separate streaming services. All of the MCU films will be taken off of Netflix and, while they could technically still continue with the Netflix-show MCU as I believe they have the rights to the characters for a few more years, in business terms, Netflix probably doesn't think it's in their best interests to continue to pay for MCU or at least MCU-adjacent shows that could effectively end up advertising their competition.

I highly doubt Daredevil will be how it currently is on a Disney service. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s even a recast, which would be a travesty.

Tom4784

Plus Netflix is looking to do content that they own entirely over collaborations. It's why a lot of shows are getting cancelled lately because they're were made in partnership with normal channels and such. Pretty much all the flagship shows that made Netflix what it was will inevitably get cancelled for the same reason.

Only just started this last night. Finding it great tbh. Though quite...torture porny in places. I may just have not much experience with this kind of thing as fighting type stuff isn't really my thing but the fight scenes seem amazingly choreographed? I only started wtaching it as it came up on an ad when I finished something else (shooter, with ryan philippe..which was also surprisingly good!)..I usually turn the ads straight off, so might actually watch them in future as both recommendations that came from that have been pretty decent! Nearly done with season 1 now..which is slow for a binge for me, but I actually slept decently last night which is odd! :D

Am definitely moving onto Jessica Jones when am done with this.

Can't imagine disney doing owt decent with this..would surely become all..PG which I don't think I would appreciate tbh. Then again I guess, the main point of any show is maximum viewers I guess and toning the violence and darkness down a bit, would probably gain more viewers than it loses.

Daredevil was, at least, complete on Netflix - the three seasons it got covered a pretty good story arc for the character. It doesn't feel like an unfinished show. JJ less so however the first season of JJ (with David Tennant) is just a brilliant piece of standalone telleh. The whole thing is good but season 1 is truly stand-out. Luke Cage I also enjoyed but it's definitely incomplete... S2 ended on a cliffhanger and that was the end. I personally also find Iron Fist watchable although some people hate it. The Punisher is excellent too, and despite only being 2 seasons, is also a very complete story arc.

Depending how far through DD you are (you might be past this point already) you should really watch The Defenders (the team-up series) between DD season 2 and 3. It aired between the two and is basically Daredevil season 2.5 + Iron Fist season 1.5 (tbh Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are pretty much just along for the ride  ) but DD season 3 follows on from it, and you'll have to piece together what happened if you don't watch it. You don't have to watch the other shows before watching it, you can basically just treat it like an unofficial extra Daredevil season.

Scarlett.

Its a shame we only really got one season of The Defenders
