The mother of a newborn baby abandoned in public toilets at an amusement arcade has been found and is receiving medical treatment.

The infant was named April by staff at Ormskirk Hospital in Southport, where she is being treated.

She was just hours old when workers at Silcock's Amusement Arcade found her in the disabled toilet on Thursday evening.

An image of the child, wearing a pink playsuit, was released by Merseyside police as they sought to identify her mother and said she was "not in trouble".

Police said there were signs that April was "born where she was found".

Officers said they had traced the mother to an address in the Merseyside area.

Superintendent Claire Richards said: "I would like to thank the local community, the online community and the media for their assistance in this matter."

This is absolutely shocking Tom. I dread to think what would have happened if no one had gone into the toilets for hours? Is there an update?

The baby's fine iirc, there's not been a news update since so I'm assuming everything is okay

Could be like a teen mum or when people go crazy when pregnant, it's really sad.

I feel for the mother. She obviously has some issues which need addressed. I'm glad they found her and she can get some help.

Disgusting bitch. I dont give a crap about 'mental health issues' (oddly enough, that ALWAYS seem to be blamed) in cases like this, I save my sympathy for the poor victim of it all. God bless that poor baby. Anyone who can leave a newborn in a scummy toilet doesn't deserve to be a parent.

And before the judgement starts, though I know it will anyway, I suffered PND after the birth of my son (still do now apparently), and would still never have dreamt of doing something like this. Takes a special kind of person to abandon something as vulnerable and innocent as a child IMO

I won't be judging you Vicky because I actually agree with you if I'm honest. That's why I only enquired about the baby.

I hope she gets done for neglect, personally. Give her whatever 'help' she needs in prison. Her crime against this baby needs accounted for.

I get what you mean but this baby could of been a product of rape or a teenage pregnancy or something; i'm not excusing her behavior in anyway but the woman obviously had some psychological problems that need to be helped.

I don't think thats an excuse. At the least give the child up properly, don't just leave them in a public toilet ffs. No matter whats happened.

There is no way she's getting that baby back, it's for the best.

I bet she does, if she was scared and alone then with help and support there's no reason why she couldn't be a normal loving mum.

This.

We have no idea what her circumstances are, and what led her to take such a drastic measure. With support she could be absolutely fine.

I think it's fair to say that the motive behind her dumping the baby is because, in some way, she's not capable of looking after it. Maybe financial reasons, maybe she couldn't cope mentally, maybe no one knew she was pregnant and she was afraid - either way, I don't think they should give the baby back to her if she ditched it.

I don't think we should completely pour scorn on the mother until more facts come to light, if ever they do. She could have serious psychological problems.

Well all the more reason to not let her look after this baby - the only thing we can conclude from this incident is that she did not, for whatever reason, feel capable of looking after the baby. Don't make her take the baby. She didn't want it.

Good, she should be punished.

Attempted murder though...is there something else to this story? Can't just be leaving the baby if these are the charges...seems shes even sicker than I thought

and :/

Merseyside Police said the 29-year-old woman, from Prescot, was also charged with child cruelty

I would imagine leaving a newborn baby abandoned would be classed as attempted murder given their vulnerability.

I was thinking she has possibly tried to conceal the baby so it wouldn't be found....I don't think it would be attempted murder if she had "just" abandoned her. Awful....

She's 29 as well so a fully grown adult not a child herself
