View Full Version : Listen to how calm Marcus used to narrate

What happened :umm2:
Marcus said in the UBB final behind the scenes documentary that his narration was very much controlled in the beginning and that he actually hated his job for the first few years until they began allowing him to adapt his lines and write his own material. Obviously he has completely flee reign now, but I don't think he was given much leeway until BB6/BB7.

He wasn't as mental doing it as he was now :worry: He was still quite calm throughout all C4 BB Series!

He was quite bad during BB11 - I only think he's that bad really during PREVIOUSLY and doing live show voice overs.

He really needs to reign it in for the summer, the way he 'introduced' Emma on finale night was just awful.

Christ almighty!
That was terrifying. That wasn't an introduction that was a ****ing roar.
I don't remember it being that bad, ever, when watching on TV.
Somebody needs to slit his vocal cords, before the theme tune becomes the sound of his own voice.

I liked how he was almost just a narrator, and that he was presenting the housemates without opinions.

It should have remained controlled - rewatching BB1 now and the subtle approach works so much better. He became a parody of himself in the later C4 years and then it became even worse when the tone changed on C5.
I really don't think the show needs a narrator anymore - people knows how it works and can form their own opinion about what is happening.

He's a mess
I don't know what made the guys behind the scenes think we want to have to turn the volume down every 5 seconds whenever Marcus reappears, I don't think they realise how ridiculous he sounds. D: We need to bring back that female robotic BB voice for adverts and evictions and just keep (a much quieter) Marcus for limited brief narration a throughout the episodes.

He either needs to be toned down or just sacked tbh. He's another thing that makes Big Brother a mess these days, the shouting is really unnecessary and the show appears very tacky/amateur with the way he narrates now... which is sad considering how long he has been working in the industry.

Not to mention he's way too overused nowadays.
He's supposed to be the narrator. Now he also does the voting T&C, eviction countdown, please leave the house, previously/coming up, and intros.

He should have gone when C5 took it over. On the same note though it is where having a shorter tighter edited show might be of benefit - in the early days it was half an hour a day so they didn't have time to list where every single housemate was at the beginning of each scene. They just put the time up, perhaps showed another group of HMs briefly to establish where they were and then cut to the main action, with Marcus actually putting the scene into context rather than adding opinion and stating the obvious.

I've always thought it was completely pointless the way they get him to read the terms and conditions on the live shows. Why not just have Emma do it? It's just more Marcus for the sake of more Marcus, there really is no point.

Though I guess the same thing could be said for most things they do these days

I was watching Big Brother's Big DVD earlier and an episode from BB5 came on. He sounded so much better. Then I saw this and started cringing again.

Seriously, he was awful on finale night. Though I did laugh when he stumbled on the T&Cs
