It is being reported that the upcoming series of Big Brother has been pushed back, after producers “forgot” about the upcoming General Election.

The Daily Star reports that the series had been scheduled to launch on May 7th – although it is looking likely that it may be pushed back to the 14th.

The article states that bosses only recently realised that the proposed date coincides with the General Election which is likely to dominate TV, press and social media for 48 hours.

Channel 5 are yet to provide any details about the upcoming series, however bosses are reportedly keen to launch the civilian run earlier than usual to allow a bigger gap between the final and the beginning of the summer Celebrity series.

At the latest, we'd need the eye tomorrow.

I'd also like to see the Daily Star as the source article, as over the last few weeks Blagger has become slightly unreliable.

How does it feel to be the first person on earth to ever say that?

If it launches during 22nd-29th May, that's most likely when Britains Got Talent semi-finals will be on since they usually do them when parents are off work and children are off school on the half-term holidays. So BB could see it's worst launch figures ever if it runs then.

Although I might be wrong about BGT, idk.

I can totally see BB being pushed back into June again and just lasting 7/8 weeks tbh.

...is this the first mention in the press of the series beginning in May? That's a good sign, surely - even if it is the Daily Star?

It wouldn't be the first time that the star has made a headline out of nothing other than unsubstantiated rumours. Especially now Desmond doesn't even own the channel.

But now that Desmond doesn't own the channel, they'd surely have less of a reason to make a story about something not particularly important like the start date.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Viacom had done some completely ridiculous deal so that the Daily Star still covers BB

So it was meant to start 2 weeks from now? Last year we had the eye 1 month before the launch

“forgot” about the upcoming General Election.

:joker:

I'm cackling.

This piece of news is making me more sure of a mid-May launch, but if they are planning to launch on the 14th, then it would be wise to reveal the eye today, by the latest.

BB15's eye was revealed about four weeks before the series launched. 14th May is three weeks away - so they're already a week late, compared to last year.

Yeah that's correct current new deal will see the sun covering bb this summer as well but not as much coverage as the star

bosses realised the election takes place that day

sounds unbelievably stupid. I hope for them it's not true.

WHY DO THEY CAAAAAARE?

The ratings are irrelevant at this point, BB has a very niche audience, we all understand this.

It's as if they only care about the launch ratings in order to get a quick tabloid headline. It's all smoke and mirrors.

If they did they are taking the "no contact with the outside world" rule a bit too rigidly.

It isn't anywhere in the provisional schedules for the 14th so I doubt it.

It could of course air before then. I defer to learned counsel's expertise!

I actually said that it had been pushed back due the general election and would launch around the 13th around two weeks ago!

Even though there's currently no space in the schedules for it to launch then? :suspect:

One of the BB producers (Tom Sutton) has revealed he spent yesterday in the new Big Brother house, and he said he is sworn to secrecy about revealing any details of the house and said the show is back VERY SOON.
