A former Portuguese detective has been ordered to pay £75,000 to Kate and Gerry McCann after a long-running libel trial, it was reported today.
Police chief Goncalo Amaral ran the initial investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal in 2007.
He then went on to write a book in which he claimed the toddler had died in an accident in Praia da Luz and had not been abducted.

Great news. It was outrageous this man made money from a book claiming all kinds of things with no evidence and yet people have quoted the book on this forum to prove their point! Another court has come down in favour of the McCanns, how many more courts will have to do the same? No one could say they didn't do the wrong thing that night and they have to live with the consequences forever. No amount of money will bring their daughter back. As for the story not going away, well no. Let's hope it doesn't. The McCanns always said they will do everything to keep Madeleine's name in the press, and I'm sure most parents in a similar awful position would do the same.

I think most people have lost the will to care about this story. It's endless press coverage with a different take on what may have happened that night.

But it's obvious when you really examine this story, really look into the evidence that something is extremely fishy about the official story.

It's been debated so many times on here and we are no further forward in finding out the truth about what really happened to that poor little girl.

I pray one day the real events of that night are finally made known , instead of this constant drip fed nonsense which helps no one and takes us no further forward in actually finding out what happened to Madeleine.

Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral has won his appeal against his court libel defeat to Madeleine McCann's parents.

The former police chief had previously been ordered to pay Kate and Gerry McCann €500,000 in damages in April last year after accusing them of faking their daughter's abduction.

The appeal decision now paves the way for Mr Amaral's book ‘The Truth of the Lie’ to be sold again in the shops in what would be a devastating setback for the McCanns.

Amaral to sue the McCanns now too apparently :laugh:

Former police chief Goncalo Amaral is planning to sue Gerry and Kate McCann for compensation in a new body blow for the couple.

Missing Madeleine McCann's parents are already reeling from the shock of having their €500,000 (£395,000) libel victory revoked by Lisbon appeal judges who also overturned a ban on his book The Truth Of The Lie.

Last night their heartache at the idea of a book which accuses them of faking their daughter's abduction hitting the shelves as early as next week was compounded by the threat of a lawsuit from Amaral.

His lawyer announced after the libel U-turn he would sue the McCanns for damages, claiming the couple's long-running court fight had cost his client money and harmed his reputation.


This is never going to end, mind I can see his point of view here completely. Don't think this will get far though really...not many people I know see him as the guy who 'bungled' the investigation...anything but, he seems to be upheld as the only one willing to actually look at ALL possibilities.
