View Full Version : If you were the creator of your own religion...
What 5-10 commandments would you have in place? They can be all serious, all satirical or a mix of the two and they can be as specific or vague as you want them.
You are perfectly entitled to steal another persons commandment if you want it on your list but if you take it exactly word for word maybe quote the user at the end of the commandment or something.
1) treat others how would you expect to be treated by them.
2) be understanding of others personal hardships even when you have hardships of your own.
3) be charitable if necessary, we can't always be secure and prosperous.
4) have any other gods you may wish but do not allow the words of thi gods to break any of thine other commandments.
5) for one day of every month (usually the last Sunday) reserve yourself two minutes of personal reflection for the people you have loved and lost and for those lost in unfortunate circumstances.
6) Do not kill under any circumstance, even in the name of justice.
7) thou are prefectly entitled to call fans of other football clubs '********in tail tuggers' across the stand so long as thi beer is at least half full and thou wordst are just. Afterward thou may explain to any of thine offspring that may be in attendance that football makes Daddy go crazy and at all other times you must abide by the other commandments.
8) do not talk with your mouth full.
9) be utterly faithful to your partner unless you have previously agreed you are going to have an open relationship in which case patteth thineself on thi back and consider thiself blessed my child.
10) do not take that which does not belong to you.

1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
4. Every person has the right to control of their body.
5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
9. There is no one right way to live.
10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Yeh that's totally fine Liv.
I should obviously add for future reference that this isn't an attempt to call out the OT or voice any dissatisfaction with it or anything, it's just a little thread if people want to express the things that matter to them personally or just get a bit creative.

http://www.skepticink.com/incredulous/2013/07/04/10-awkward-facts-about-the-ten-commandments/
There aren’t ten. And there is no agreement on which ten of the many are “the” ten. The phrase “ten commandments” appears in Exodus 34 and in Deuteronomy 10, which is a reference but not a list. The strange thing is that the line about Moses writing on the (new) tablets “the ten commandments” is preceded by a list of totally different orders, such as “you shall keep the feast of the unleavened bread”. The familiar list is given earlier in Exodus 20, except that it is never there called “the Ten Commandments” and there is no mention of tablets until 11 chapters and 600-some commandments later.
Also, Exodus 20 gives thirteen specific orders, not ten. The same list is repeated in Deuteronomy 5, yet again not called “Ten Commandments”. Wikipedia offers this helpful table showing how seven different Abrahamic faiths carve up the “Ten Commandments”.

My point is that something made up by some hippies in the 1970s and purporting to be a "Wiccan Rede" is just funny. There are no written records of witchcraft so they made it sound old and kind of spooky like it was an ancient thing, to make it sound more authentic maybe. And it's mostly whispered by chubby teenagers in panne velvet and too much kohl pencil. Just my take on it of course. People are perfectly entitled to believe my faith is a load of made up bunkum, you've said yourself many times that the bible is a load of rubbish... and yet you argue over this Wiccan Rede. Strange...
Just a bizarre side point but when Livia and Kizzy go head to head I always end up imagining two stags locking horns in rutting season.
