If you go to report a thread to the mods, you get this message.

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

But sometimes you need to report a post that may not fit into that category, such as problems with thread titles, a thread in the wrong place, a duplicate post or when threads should be merged, to name a few.

Can the reporting function be reviewed and maybe change that message you get when you do report a post?

Just put that in the reason when you report the thread, doesn't really need the system to change

Yeah I just say in the reason box if something needs to be moved, or merged with an existing thread :spin2: I don't think the mods mind

Then why have that text there?

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

It implies that anything else will be considered a violation of the reporting function which means either your report is ignored or you yourself face sanction for the violation.

Does it really matter? People know how to use the report function regardless of the text, and if it is a newer member then they would only really use the report function for one of those reasons (i.e. they are unlikely to use it to report a thread merge).

Besides the reasons listed are what the report button is for. and only really that. If you make a duplicate post you can delete that yourself, same with if you make the title of a thread wrong, you can alter that yourself too, it doesn't need to be reported.

Everything you described above about threads would fit into the 'problematic posts' description.
