You met the wrong people then. I love seeing the world. I'll admit my fave times are when I am not around too many people or with just a select few in the middle of nowhere (not a busy city lover).

How much would it generally cost do you think

Not a lot. The visa is £138 (it allows you there for a full year - 23 months), the flights depending on how you choose to do the journey are anywhere between £550 - £1000 (the £1000 being if you break up the journey with other destinations such as Thailand, Bali, Australia, rather than straight there) and all you need is £1500 in your bank to arrive with (so the last two months wages before you go usually does that nicely).

So overall you could have £2200 and get there and then work and travel.

That's actually not that bad...

How hard is finding work though? What type of places do you have to work in?

Benjamin

Nope, especially as you can earn better money over there while working and then travelling at the same time.

Easy if you are not fussy. Anything from bar/restaurant work, to shops/retail, farm work, fruit picking etc.

It's how I got into travel even though I had never worked in the industry before. It's a great way to try out new jobs. My friend works as a bungee jump operator and gets to do free bungee jumps all day while saving money for the next travels.

How long are you staying in Japan for Turtle?

Done it for the first time from March last year (Spain, Italy, Czech, Germany, France) and it was great, best experience of my life so far. Going again at the end of June although apart from returning to Barcelona I haven't planned much of it yet, just booked my flight and will probably decide on the rest when I'm actually out there because most of my plans before leaving last time ended up changing once I was travelling about anyway. I'm hoping I get to Slovenia this time, I really wanted to last time but always ended up somewhere else. And definitely got to check out other parts of Greece. I don't think I'd enjoy it half as much if I didn't stay in hostels though, I'd probably put the meeting new people and partying above the tourist aspect of it.

Ammi
06-05-2015, 04:17 AM
...are you still on contact with any of the people you met, Locke..?..

..Barcelona is somewhere I have never been but my son says it's an amazing vibe...

Locke.
06-05-2015, 04:26 AM
I still speak to a couple and have a few others on Facebook but I don't really use that much these days. And Barcelona is great, so much stuff to do in the days, loads of things to see, and the nightlife is great. Have you been to any other parts of Spain before?

Ammi
06-05-2015, 04:34 AM
..yeah in Barcelona, you have the city and the beach within minutes of each other and there are some great gardens there as well, we have planned to go a few times but it just didn't happen for different reasons but it is on my list of places to visit...

...we went to Alicante a few years ago and although it's quiet-ish, it has a great vibe as well...a few of the Balearics as well but I have to say that Spain isn't somewhere I've been to a lot...

I worked on a cruise ship and later worked on a Greenpeace ship, so I've clocked a few sea miles. I loved it then, the different climates and people I met along the way. For a young person that kind of life was ideal.
Since becoming a mum I've had to reign in a bit of the wanderlust, but there are days when I just want to strap on a backpack and take to the hills.

Just doing 9 days there and then heading down to Singpaore and then over to Bali again for a week.

If you go to Slovenia you should defo try get to Italy and Croatia on your trip this time. Fantastic places, especially during the summer. Also Montenegro and Albania if you can.

I did go to Rome last time but it was right at the end of my trip and was only for 3 days, so I was already thinking about the trip home at that point really. I'll definitely look into Croatia though, would be good seeing some of the GOT sets over there.

Croatia is stunning. My next trip through Europe (whenever that will be) will be over to Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.

My brother was living in Hong Kong for 3 years and he traveled to 20 something Asian countries in his time there and Japan was his favourite i think, either there or Mongolia I think
