Thought it would be interesting to start a debate on the two extremes. Poll coming too.

So, if you were to choose between our country running on communism or laissez-faire capitalism.. which one would you pick, and why?

Communism doesn't work (nice concept, but not doable). Unbridled Capitalism doesn't work either. You need to take Capitalism and install a safety social net. You also have to have rules and regulations. Humans cheat and steal. Deregulating the market will lead to a collapse.

Actually a very good post with very valid points.

It begs the question then why is our govt so hell bent on deregulation and ensuring the only recourse for our industries performing badly is to raid public coffers?
The industries that are performing well are sold to the highest bidder, money is never returned, they create the illusion of growth using quantitative easing instead.

The most complicated yes or no poll ever held on TiBB.,

It is a pointless poll because I don't think anyone would truly advocate either. In the modern economic world, it's not even a case of "if you absolutely had to choose", because both systems would inevitably collapse. There would be no point choosing at all. The people who have voted for laissez-faire, I can only assume don't actually understand what that would involve or what the implications would be in a global economy that no longer runs on a basic goods & services basis. With the amount of "imaginary money" tied up in the finance industries, it would collapse over night.

It's only a hypothetical... if there was a dead centre which extreme would you be closest to? Mine would be communism.

Laissez-faire capitalism would never work either, arista.

I agree with all above, neither would work.
