The way I see it is that if a guy or a girl poses no threat to the men and women who are in the audience of the launch shows they get cheered. Jack is a bit on the obese side and the men were probably not jealous of him and the women loved him so he got cheered. Any model guys or girls get booed because they are the opposite.
