The Simpsons could be about to lose the voice of Mr Burns and Ned Flanders.
Harry Shearer has left the show following a dispute with producers over his "freedom to do other work", although it may yet be resolved in time for the new season.
Writing on Twitter, Shearer claimed that the lawyer of producer James L Brooks explained the "show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best".
The voice actor added: "This because I wanted what we've always had: the freedom to do other work. Of course, I wish him the very best."
He added: "Thanks, Simpsons fans, for your support."
Shearer is the voice of iconic characters like Mr Burns and Ned Flanders.
However, his departure may not yet be final as there is still time for the two parties to reconcile and reach an agreement - although they are on a tight deadline as the series heads into production for its 26th season.
When asked if the dispute could be resolved, Shearer told CNNMoney: "I think that's a question better posed to them."
As well as voicing iconic characters like Mr Burns and Ned Flanders, Shearer is also the voice behind Reverend Lovejoy, Principal Skinner and Kent Brockman.
He has been with the show - which was recently renewed for a 26th and 27th run - since it began in 1989.
