View Full Version : Changes you would make to Big Brother on Channel 5?

First and foremost, I would make a better website built around the 24/7 live coverage. Ideally there would be 4 feeds, but 2 may prove to be sufficient. A special third (or fifth) feed should be a diary room feed to watch live nominations. For the show to improve in the this age of 24/7 social media, it needs to be faster paced, more immediate and more interactive. Unfortunately they have gone in the opposite direction and made things slower, more difficult to keep up with and pushed the viewer further and further away.
I would like a return to tasks that actually challenge the housemates and reveal something about their characters rather than tasks that are all about either creating drama or humiliating them. Combining challenging tasks with entertainment value requires a far greater level of creativity and it would earn the production team far more kudos.
I would like more memorable, strong, individual characters. Some people seem to like this group this year, but it seems like absurd casting to me. The lads are looked at by the more mature women as little brothers they're proud of rather than equals. And why wouldn't they be? Christian, Nick and Joel are all about 20, Aaron is mentally about 10 and Jack seems younger than he is as well. Most of the females are in their mid-20s and we all know they tend to grow up faster than boys. It creates a very strange dynamic that makes no sense to me. They were much better at getting the mix right in earlier series such as the third, fifth and even the ninth.
I would also like genuinely controversial housemates that reflect what is going on in the surrounding culture. If there is a rise in nationalism of some sort, then get a nationalist who is intelligent and articulate in there and others who are able to debate reasonably with that person.
Another change that I feel needs to be made is how the HL show is edited. We no longer get conversations that tell us much about the housemates. Instead there is an over-reliance on contrived conflict and twists. We hardly ever see them talking about themselves, who they are, what their background is. If we do it is little more than a setup for some goofy facial expression or funny comment after 30 seconds. Longer scenes which give us a better sense of the people we are watching would create a much more interesting show.
Those are some of my ideas, with the first idea being the most important. Please add some of your own.
Pete.

Less tasks designed to cause arguments. Fake arguments are not entertaing, like the ones caused by the debate task - they were forgotten about as soon as the task was done with. More endurance tasks that test physical strength - The Hole this year was very good so more of that please.
I also think the show would benefit more from not having 'main characters' who hog the highlights shows.

Go back to the simple C4 Editing.
Audition Housemates with no media background.
Better tasks (Like the C4 ones)
Don't have a secret room every series as the housemates expect it too much.
Let BB be evil again and not give out warnings for stupid sh/it!
Get new houses every Year like they used to (They used the Gina house Summer 2013 up to CBB January 2015) Got sick of seeing it tbh!
And use real songs for there Best Bits and not some random generic background music.
less tasks that create drama, more that are fun and entertaining
90 minute highlight shows
bring back the jail

- A producer who knows how to please an audience.
- More Big Brother and less Marcus Bentley.
- Sixteen housemates, all with completely different personalities.
- Live coverage at all times on the Big Brother website.
- Less glitzy editing. It's too task-driven and we no longer get to see general conversation within the house.
- Improve the tasks; have more endurance competitions and stop breaking the 'no contact' rule. No wonder Adjoa was crying.
-- On the subject of tasks, the shopping tasks are poor. They should take up to three days and be more interesting.
- Stop messing with the nominations process unless its genuinely exciting.
- Strict rules; stop being 'nice' to the housemates.
- Get rid of the crowd all together.

24 hour live feed.
Tone Marcus' narration down / return to having one of the BB voices do the eviction announcements
Less finalists (a maximum of 4)
Stricter rule enforcement (including not allowing weak nominations)
Less "production"
Return to having the housemates seated in the living area during nominations
Crowd control
- Make the tasks longer and more interesting like the Channel 4 days
- Limit Marcus to just the highlights show and no stupid over-exaggerations of his voice
- Show us more conversations about the housemates lives and interesting stories
- A more dynamic mix of housemates, none recruited
- Less twists: they lose their shock value
- Shock the audience, have one massive twist something such as twin swapping which only the twins know about
- Put the outside stage into an indoor stage arena
- Have Emma speak to the house with no audience noise
- Limit the finalé to 3 housemates
- Reintroduce actual surprise evictions such as Stuart BB5

I'd like some intelligent housemates.
One rule to apply to all.
If people talk nominations, then they are automatically nominated.
24 hour live feed.
Tasks that challenge them.

- Get a new BOTS host perhaps someone starting out or maybe Laura Whitmore?
- Put an end to themes every year e.g. 'Timebomb' 'Secrets and lies' 'Power trip'
- Have around three twists a series a launch night twist one in the middle of the series and one around the end
- Stop silly recruits have around 3 recruits a series at the very most
- Reintroduce head to head evictions
- Stop wasting time with Emma reading out the numbers of nominated housemates after every ad break have their names and numbers appear at the bottom of the screen every five minutes etc
- Make shopping tasks more interesting and last longer the last great shopping task was Queen Bee Gina
- Stop all the silly montages
- Dont have parties for the housemates nearly every week just when it's someone's birthday and one at the end of the series (otherwise just let them drink normally as I usually find fake ness when there's a lot of parties and they're never interesting)

I agree pretty much with everything mentioned in here so far.
Although in terms of programming.
Monday
- Highlights (60 minutes)
- Extended BOTS (90 minutes)
- Live Feed (30 minutes)
Tuesday - Thursday
- Highlights (60 minutes)
- BOTS condensed down, just with audience debates and celeb guests, with no VTs and nothing extra. Just a very basic show with a small news segment (45 minutes)
- Live Feed (60 minutes)
Friday
- Eviction and highlights (60 minutes)
- BOTS (60 minutes)
- Live Feed (60 minutes)
Saturday
- Live Feed (2 hours)
- Highlights shows for this night scrapped
Sunday
- Highlights (90 minutes)
- Live Feed (60 minutes)

The live coverage needs to be 24/7.
I would love 24/7 live feed as much as anyone else although realistically Channel 5 will never ever bring back 24/7 live feed. However much we moan about it... it just won't happen sadly
I think at least one hour live feed a night would be a realistic and logical step for Channel 5 to make

I wish they'd put live coverage in the evenings on 5* again.
I loved those first few days of live feed during BB14.

tbh a new exterior set, a little more of a diverse bunch and thats it really! I like the twists as long as they don't involve nominations unless someone goes up that should be.

The live coverage needs to be 24/7.
Fair enough but not everyone wants it (or can).
Once live feed comes into play, those who prefer to stick to the HL (and come on here) will get told the outcome in advance.
If they went to live feed, I'd have to avoid coming on here anymore.
Yes there's already next day news posted up.
And I peek on website myself.
But credit to C5 who don't tell you the whole story.
e.g Jack is currently taking issue with eating the luxury food but I don't really know why.
If they added live feed after the HL each night, story would have moved on and it's like playing catchup trying to work out what's happened (urgghh !)
But fair enough, many have a preference for watching in depth.

A better spread in age groups when it comes to the housemates.
Live feed.
No outside contact.
More diverse characters.

Only use Marcus for day/time/narration
Absolutely NO contact with the outside world.
Overnight taks.

Perfect.
Although 90 minutes for Friday Eviction and Highlights would be better. If the show was an hour, we would only get like 20 minutes of highlights.
Fridays should work like this
2100-2230 - BIG BROTHER LIVE EVICTION
2230-2330 - BIG BROTHER'S BIT ON THE SIDE
2330-0030 - LIVE FROM THE HOUSE

Oops yeah I meant to put 90 minutes for Friday's show, not 60.
That's pretty much what I vision on a Friday
