Ammi and I received an email from Livia's account today as follows:

Ladies, this will be an odd email to receive and I apologise for that. I am XXXXX XXXXX, a friend of Livia. She has asked me to contact you and let you know that she has been in a road accident. I've been to see her today, she is ok and they're taking very good care of her. A vehicle jumped a red light and hit Livia's car quite hard. She has a broken leg, arm and collar bone and she's cracked a couple of ribs. She also sustained a nasty bump on her head. She was out for a couple of days but is awake now and is in good spirits, although rather upset about her car!

Perhaps you wouldn't mind letting any friends on her forum know that she's out of action but ok. I thought it would be best to email you from Livia's own account rather than you receiving an email from a stranger. I'm sure it won't be long until she's in touch with you herself, but in the meantime, if you'd like to reply you can email me at my own account which is XXXXX@gmail.com and I'd be happy to keep you up to date.

..jeez I woke up to this email and that it wasn't from Liv herself and my heart stopped beating with the first few words...I still need to steady it but just to add to what Lily has said...if anyone has any personal messages or well wishes ..if you PM either Lily or I then we'll pass them on to her...also (Margarine..)..I've already asked for the hospital/ward details (I'm not sure whether she will want these given out/privacy) but if she's ok with it I'll send flowers from us all....

Jesus H Christ that sounds awful but so glad she is ok. Out for 2 days and all the injuries that is a pretty bad smash and her pride and joy the convertible.

Update this evening:

Hello Linda, I’ve seen Livia today and she’s doing really well and getting a bit bored. She loved the messages, they made her quite emotional actually and she sends her thanks and her love to everyone. She hopes to be back home before the weekend but I’m not sure if that’s what she’s decided or what the doctors have actually said – probably for former. Considering it’s a week tomorrow since the accident she is making great progress, of course not fast enough for Livia. Ammi said in her message that she had asked about flowers but I haven’t had a message from Ammi. In answer to her question though, sadly no flowers are allowed on the ward which is a shame.

I’ll keep you informed and thanks for being our news distribution service!

..just a little update...I don't think that it was mentioned in the original email but the other car that hit Liv was a drunk driver and I think (...by the damage to her car..)..if she had been driving a lesser car without the safety features hers had then the outcome would not be what it was which has caused her quite serious injuries anyway...I know how much she loved her car and was determined to buy it at the time/a 'treat' for herself and it may have saved her life...

..I won't post the email as there are personal things in there as well and names etc but her friend will ask her thoughts about having something sent to her home address....I think we'll just wait for her to guide us with that...

Two emails from her friend today:

I've spoken to Livia this morning, she's expecting the doctor later today and she's hopeful he'll give her a date to come home. I'm not sure he will, but finger's crossed. The problem is that all her injuries are on the right side so it's difficult for her to use crutches because of her arm/collarbone. We'll see what the doctor says though, and I'll let you know when I hear more.

Hello Linda and Amelie,

I’ve seen Livia today after she saw the doctor. She’s having her stitches out on Friday and all being well they will discharge her then. She’s had a blood transfusion because apparently that happens frequently after a femoral break. She’s already been up and about putting weight on her leg, and although she’s still in quite a lot of pain she is determined. She’s using one crutch because it’s impossible for her to use two with her other breaks and the physios are working with her. She’s very tired but apart from that she seems to be bearing up remarkably. She's straining at the leash to get out whereas I would probably want to lay still for a week or two.

This is all very good news, I hope it works out because Livia will be devastated if they don’t discharge her.

I'll send more news as I get it. Thank you both.

..in the last email that her friend mentioned it, they said that it's not something that they had approached her with/asked her yet in terms of giving out her home address and I just think that they're probably right..the thing is to get her home and settled right now and speed up her recovery around family and friends...so for the moment, I think maybe we should just put it on hold, Caitlin...but I think that every individual message on here will feel like a bouquet of flowers to her in itself...

Hello Linda and Amelie,

Livia is being discharged this afternoon. She's waiting for her medication and then we have a private ambulance bringing her home. We thought she'd be very uncomfortable in a car. Livia said she'd get on the Tube so long as she was coming home. I'm not sure what time she'll be back, I'm guessing late afternoon or early evening.

Thanks to you both for your support and for keeping people informed. It has been really lovely having a correspondence with you both.
