I've slept in the open woods before so camping is never the worst thing in the world

All things like this are great. It is difficult getting anybody else to do it with though, people are too obsessed with thinking you have to stay in a hotel if you go anywhere.

Proper camping is my fav kind... :flutter:
Reminds me of my young glory days In British Columbia Canada... My friends and I would just take off for a mountain hike and camp on our random days off. No direction, destination or plan... just go *sigh*

A million years ago I was camping with my then girlfriend in Cornwall - proper camping not on a site - and I've never needed more than a couple of hours sleep at night (especially then) so one night in the early hours, whilst she was asleep I think, I'm laid awake reading by lamplight, when I heard something directly outside the tent.
I grabbed the lamp and poked my head out to investigate and saw the biggest badger in the world - it was humongous. Thank God it scarpered.
You don't get moments like that in hotels.
I am THE best camp mate ever just because I don't sleep. I keep guard most of the night, and my girlfriends ALWAYS awoke to the smell of fresh coffee and bacon and eggs sizzling.
Happy days.

Yes, when i was growing up my entire family used to go camping and they were always the best trips :flutters:
Nothing beats waking up to the sound of rain hitting your tent or just nature in general.
no the last time i went the tent blew away and we had to sleep in the car, soaking wet :bored:

No i went once with my family in the lakes and I hated it. I hate how damp it is I hate that their is nothing surrounding you I hate the fact that it is cramped and I have claustrophobia (I'm not just one of those people what just say it I actually do I cannot go in lifts otherwise I would have a panic attack) and I HATE the sleeping bags I hate how their was no proper food and I hate how their was no electronical devices.
So I think I'll just stay in a hotel...

One of my friends is a big carp fisher man and he takes Matthew with him sometimes in a bivvy at the side of the lake. They keep trying to sell it to me that its calm and tranquil - but there are no facilities so I am getting a bit too old for peeing in a tree
We used to camp loads as teensagers - but mainly just sitting up all night round a fire, taking rubbish all night then going home at first light for a hot shower and sleep ina comfy bed

Given the choice of a hotel room or a tent
The hotel room wins every time

I used to go carp fishing in france for a week at a time. When your rod alarms go off at 3 in the morning its not tranquil, believe me

Well, generally I would park the bike and put up the tent. Never thought of doing it your suggested way

Heeeeeell no. Love being outdoors, will happily go to a nice remote place and sit round a fire and roast some marshmallows and enjoy the peace and nature and all that, BUT at the end of the day I am 100% going home to my bed. In fact, I'd honestly rather just sleep in the car than in a tent :umm2:.
