It’s understood that in March the network asked Endemol, makers of the reality franchise Big Brother, to begin quietly casting for a celebrity version of the show.

After a few months of pre-production, that idea was abruptly shelved in mid-May, sources say. Endemol then quickly began exploring the possibility of a regular season of Big Brother but Nine wasn’t overly interested.

“They ditched that idea pretty quickly,” the source said. “It was crazy to imagine pulling together a full season in such a short space of time.”

Ah, that's a shame if true. 2013's series was brilliant, though they just didn't get it right last year.

CBB cancelled too?

Regular BB needs to go on hiatus, not cancelled because the producers need time to recreate and think up new ideas

It's hard to believe one bad series can ruin it all

Too bad... The pervious two were really good

Hope they take a year out to rework it and come back with a regular series in 2016. Maybe a later time slot would work and less moving about in the schedules. The 2014 cast was good, it was just poorly executed.

Why don't they head over and show BBUK how to construct a consistent format?

They should bring the nomination point format over here tbh

I don't think the family-friendly rebrand since it returned in 2012 did the show many favours. BB10 was good in spite of this, but it would have been even better with the Network Ten format. If a miracle happens and it eventually returns once again, I hope they consider that.

The production was brilliant though, despite it's flaws there are things BBUK could learn from BBAUS. The exciting nomination system, the tough enforcement of rules (especially nomination related ones), the crowd control at evictions, not having an overload of finalists, etc.

I hope they bring both the points format and the nominations pod. And the stricter BB.

I actually liked that the housemates couldn't use the F-bomb every second word... and family diners /discussions often lead to better arguments and discussion that just plying them with booze tbh.

The series itself was better than BBUK for watchability (over the same years)... imho... it just had one bad run that killed it.

If Priya won last series this wouldn't happen

sorta knew it wouldn't be on this year, i stopped watching last years when they set in the new housemates.

The reason it use to get so many people watch was a diverse cast of different ages not all 24 year olds.

Nine still hold the rights for BBAU and put aside the idea of CBBAU in favour of Celeb Apprentice.

Rumours flowing that apparently that they're trying to negotiate another 3 year deal for BBAU, which is what their contract was when Nine got it originally back in 2012 to see it air 2016-2018

And Channel5 are probably going to do the oposite, more cbb less civillian.

Good. Either let BBAU die or make it watchable again. They need to drop the family friendly BS they've always had and which only got worse with the move to nine. Just get a bunch of freaks together in a house, get them drunk and swearing and fingering each other and put it on at 10. boom, BBAU is better than ever.

With the exception of Priya, Aisha and Travis, the cast of bb2014 was really crappy.

Everyone else looked like basic young plastic people aged 21-25 who all looked, talked, and acted the same, and production knew that with the double and triple evictions and **** every week.

Plus the way Gemma was evicted was kinda ****ed up.

I'm hoping they come back next year and are able to bounce back and have Sonia come back as presenter.
