Mokka

Yes and No...
Because it's here it has been... But also I have nieces that play provincially and so female Soccer is a big topic in my family

How popular is the rivarly with the Yanks over there? I usually forward to the matchups cause they usually deliver

Perspective wise... Canadian Woman's Soccer is the only legitimate soccer team we have, (our men's team  ) and all rivalrys against the U.S. are everything to us... In Soccer, in Women's Hockey, in every sport, it is always us vs them.

Canada vs US always gets front page news and prime TV airing...
That Olympic game made it even more so </3

I'm not one of those that has a team in every country but I like Toronto FC, is that your family's team Mokkajava?

Did anyone ask LT?? (Jk)

Soccer isn't followed here like it is in Europe Kyle,

And I am in Western Canada where the league teams are provincial, and have little to no coverage or following tbh...

But everyone cheers on Team Canada. Canadian Jerseys are pretty much the only ones bandied about

So they don't have a club side, just international?

^^^ I think hockey is there sport

Mokka
06-06-2015, 09:54 PM
So they don't have a club side, just international?

Not in the same since that you do over there... I am not sure how to explain it because it isn't the number one sport that I follow personally, but I know that there are smaller clubs within the cities that youth and teens climb their way up through, and that Provincials is pretty much the goal of these youth before hitting team Canada if you are good enough.

Soccer is actually a pretty young sport for us, it doesn't have deep roots here, but it is the fast growing sport in terms of involvement, sponsorships, etc

Oh yeh, I meant like how you said how soccer was a big topic in your family I thought they might have followed it at club level but I didn't read your post property it was cos they had family that played it.

Mokka
06-06-2015, 10:01 PM
Right, at a provincial level

Kyle
06-06-2015, 10:06 PM
Ha you also said female soccer. It would probably help if I actually read people's posts through before commenting but then again I don't even read my own posts through before posting so mmm penis I have no chance really. I could be saying anything and I wouldn't know.

Game 1 is...

New Zealand vs Neatherlands plays tonight as well

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 02:45 AM
So they don't have a club side, just international?

I have no idea how far west Java is but Vancouver has an MLS team and that's west from a club perspective. (There's 3, Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver)

I think there's a women's league in the states but there's not a single team in Canada so far but the Canadian FA is involved in the league along with the USSF and Mexican FA.

US actually has a English National as it's coach but she immigrated to the US at a young age.

Mokka
07-06-2015, 03:04 AM
Vancouver has the Whitecaps...

When I lived there I followed them a bit, and got out to one game,
But now I'm in Saskatchewan, and league soccer doesn't reach us here at all really.

All I have now is the CFL and the Saskatchewan Roughriders :hehe:

Terrible penalty decision, some definite home bias at play

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 02:17 PM
I had work so I missed the first two matches, hopefully I'll catch some today

Mokka

Terrible penalty decision, some definite home bias at play

I don't know about bias... it looked on replay like the initial contact was accidental... but that the follow through resulted in Canada's player getting further shoved to the ground with an elbow to the side of the face...

and who knows the angle and perspective of the ref at that moment... they don't have the benefit of slow motion replay... and that is the how the sport goes

but even if it was bias, Canada was on the other side of that for the Olympics... so I guess we can stand having bias in our favour for once :fan:

I had work so I missed the first two matches, hopefully I'll catch some today

I only saw bits and pieces of the second game... but I was the only goal. The second game seemed much more eventful

Yep Norway vs Thailand is about to start soon,

Fox Sports/Fox are covering the Women's World Cup this year here, They're going all out. Their ad campaign is all about a country having a score to settle, the US has been shown the most but they're doing ads for other countries as well.

By the way, Alex Morgan is still injured so she's not at 100% but is on the US Roster, Java has to be happy about that :P

Kyle
07-06-2015, 05:12 PM
Come on lasses learn to pass ffs, it's like watching bloody Rotherham.

Kyle

Unlucky, good header that.

Kyle
07-06-2015, 05:15 PM

1-0 Norway

Kyle
07-06-2015, 05:21 PM
Norway looking tidy now they're 1 up.

Kyle
07-06-2015, 05:26 PM

2-0

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 05:35 PM

Kyle

3-0

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 05:42 PM
US Commentator just mentioned that Thailand's players have real jobs outside of this.

Gotta feel sorry for them, although the 2 week vacation has to be nice

Mokka
07-06-2015, 09:04 PM
Soooooo.. Germany and Norway are the only teams to watch in Group B lol

This game is a scary catastrophe... If I were Germany I would pull all my starters just to save them from injury... and play as many bench warmers as possible

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 09:21 PM
Yeah, I just turned on the Germany CIV game.

USA vs Australia and Sweden vs Nigeria should be way closer games tomorrow

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 09:50 PM
Ten to Nil

Wow, I have to feel sorry for Ivory Coast

Mokka
07-06-2015, 09:55 PM
I couldn't decide which team to feel worse for... CIV were playing rugby with all the tackles and hits out there...

Germany need one massive ice bath now :hehe:

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 09:57 PM
no duh, 29 to 10 fouls in favor of Ivory Coast

Mokka
07-06-2015, 10:50 PM
There were way more... The ref just gave up calling them towards the end :hehe:

BBfanUSA
07-06-2015, 11:56 PM

Oh yeah I agree,

She didn't because that'd make the score way worse for Ivory Coast

Way better game in Sweden vs Nigeria,

Currently tied 3-3, 3 minutes left.

Cameroon played Ecuador yesterday in Group D as well, won 5-0.

Japan and Switzerland played last night as well, Japan won 1-0

Kyle

England have got Mr Tickle in net, arms everywhere.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 05:30 PM
Beat on near post, good strike but weak wrists from our keeper.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 05:32 PM
Hoof it up to Aluko and run, that's it England we now know where big Sam has been spending his time the last few weeks.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 05:40 PM
Mr Tickle caught flapping in no man's land, can't afford to concede a second goal.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 05:42 PM
That'll leave a mark Rafferty, they are having it easy down the right wing.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 05:48 PM
Better first half from Le Frog, don't agree with the pundits that we've been alright. It was France vs Defence for the last half an hour.

MTVN
09-06-2015, 06:06 PM
There always seems to be a real reluctance to criticise any player/team in women's football but England have been crap

MTVN
09-06-2015, 06:27 PM
Ref!!! The French are throwing elbows!!!

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:30 PM
Should have been off.

I'd like to see the challenge that brought Houghton down aswell.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:31 PM
She's got a right hoof on her that Le Sommer, need to stop backing off her.

MTVN
09-06-2015, 06:32 PM
Credit to the woman on the receiving end though, don't think many in the men's game would have jumped up that quickly and made no fuss. Although the lack of any card shows you why..

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:35 PM
Yep, puts people like Danni Alves and Suarez to shame.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:41 PM
Has the Canadian government paid for these fans to turn up or something? Even the French fans all look like they wanna hang themselves.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:44 PM
That Lavogez looks a bit tidy..er...if you know what I mean :creep:

MTVN
09-06-2015, 06:46 PM
Still not convinced by the credit being given to England, however strong France are we haven't looked like scoring all game and could have lost by more, France have never had to step it up a gear

MTVN
09-06-2015, 06:47 PM

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:48 PM
Sums up Aluko for me in this game, I know the co-commentator has just had an orgasm over her but I've not seen it, the ball has bounced off her all game and her ball control has been diabolical.

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:49 PM

MTVN

"They haven't been allowed to play by England", nah they've just barely needed to play

Kyle
09-06-2015, 06:52 PM
'Lacked anything going forward really'

That's exactly the best way to sum up that game from our perspective.

MTVN
13-06-2015, 07:17 PM
C'mon England!!!!

Shaun
13-06-2015, 07:54 PM
well we're screwed with that Colombia result tbh

MTVN
13-06-2015, 08:20 PM
pretty much unless we win both games

England better be careful if they do that again

China's keeper

But China seemed to lose focus towards the end of the first half...
And The US have had their chances, but very surprisingly not going all the way with them

Overall, the US look a little sloppier than last game I watched with them, and China look like the same team Canada played at the off

BBfanUSA

I think Wambach should be subbed on for the 2nd half.

I keep mistaking China's Keeper for Solo. Similar Hairstyles and she wears a Black kit similar to Solo's away kit

Why is Wambach on the bench... Are they hoping to wear China down before sending her in? Or is something preventing her from play

Yeah that's Japans strategy always to tire out the other team and just scrape in one goal near the end. Japan had such a solid defense and their possession is great too, was around 68% this game I think. Australia's best bet would've been 0-0 and penalties but Japan wore them out by the end.

I'm confused, I never said for you to support Japan? I'm just looking at it objectively. But totally! Canada being the home team having the supporters and just generally being more acclaimed to the environment will definitely be a plus to them. All they need to do is come up with a viable strategy to compete with Japan's barrier of a defense.

It's a relatively new sport for Canada, meaning the roots are not deep yet, so it doesn't surprise me that our manager is British... He is also new to us in the last year I believe

Pretty interesting that it's USA and Japan again. 4 years ago Japan capitalized on USA's failed opportunities and won on PKs when it could've been 4-0 USA very early on in the final.

I don't think we'll see the same outcome this time around. America's Back 4 and Solo together are a brick wall (512 Minutes without a goal allowed, which was in the first game). I think the US wins 2 (Lloyd, Wambach) - 0
