Let's face it, if a woman called another woman the things Marc has been calling the women in there, they'd be classes as 'jealous little skanky bitches'

Marc, at the very least, has little or no respect for women, at the most, he's a complete misogynist.

Calling Sam a **** bucket?

Not sexist in the least insulting maybe depends on how you take it .

Sexism is defined by the belief that one gender is inferior to the other no where in what marc said implied that.

"ladish" is one thing but you must admit that some of the comments Marc makes are quite derogatory towards women and shouldn't be passed off as "banter" I mean banter, imo, should be a two way street surely?

I definitely do admit that and have done in many of the threads about it, he crosses the line a lot.

See the stuff with Sam though I would describe as banter because she goes along with it and told him not to stop 'bantering' with her (god I hate that word)

I would say they were derogatory comments, and sexist in the way that his comments to the women are alot of times sexually motivated where as he hasn't said anything like that to the men. I mean calling someone a "cum Bucket" or asking if they're going for an STD test or saying someone has a baggy fanny...is basically calling them sluts.

mmm I think Sam is giving mixed messages tbh, I don't think she likes his comments but she likes him and would rather have that kind of attention than none, that's how it looks to me anyway. I think if Marc had any respect for Sam or liked her enough, he'd be able to have "banter" with her without calling her those names

Dont get me wrong im not saying his language isn't nasty to the individual he targets them at im say that there not sexist. Now if he were if he were to say something along the lines of all women in this house should do all the cooking and cleaning because thats all women are good for then that would be sexist because thats implying they can't contribute anything else due to there gender . The things he's said are insults not an attack on their gender as another woman could say the same thing to them.

Liam-
11-06-2015, 10:09 AM
The sexist/disrespectful to women housemates will always appeal to the 'women should respect themselves otherwise no-one else can respect them' crowd unfortunately, if a women reads from a different hymn sheet other than 'how to be a perfect woman in the eyes of a still sexist country' then they will be hated and anyone who goes against them, will be loved and it's sad.

But in this day and age 'lads' and women who like 'lads' will always support 'lads' even if the term 'lad' is just being used as a cover up or an excuse to be a complete wanker, which more often than not, it is.

I understand what you're saying but imo the sexual insults he uses are "gender motivated" if you like, so imo that makes it sexist. He feels he can objectify them and belittle them sexually because they're women, it's not something he does with men too. Yes he may have insulted the men (although not even close to how much he does with the women) but never in a sexually demeaning way, by doing this and treating women in a sexually inferior way, then he is kind of saying men are better than women....imo

Everyone calling Mark a sexist for his comments should take note of what they say because if in one thread you're calling him a sexist for saying cum bucket or baggy fanny and the next you're calling him Mark micropeen or the like then you're every bit as much of a sexist. Glass houses, stones etc.

I'm sure you'd find it hilarious if someone called you that Chuff

Honestly I've been called worse by close mates and given back worse than I got. By the time he said the stuff to Sam they'd been living together for days. You have to remember in a situation like big brother the speed of friendships developing is accelerated so they were already quite close even if we'd only seen a few hours of them.

I would say they were derogatory comments, and sexist in the way that his comments to the women are alot of times sexually motivated where as he hasn't said anything like that to the men. People straight up call their friends sluts and *****s all the time. Even Valley Girls do it. They don't mean it, it's just a joke. And the STI comment was gender neutral. If a guy had been called to the diary room and he'd said that would people be up in arms? Not so much. There is nothing intrinsically feminine about having an STI.

His rant about Harry the other day calling her smelly dog, pig etc is a prime example

Scent, dog and pig are all gender neutral comments. They also seem to be his go tos when he is truly frustrated with a person. He has repeatedly said that he calls men pigs too.

My point was though that he has never made a comment like that to one of the men, it's always to the girls. And that was the first night he met Chloe, they were hardly buddies so it can't be classed as "banter between friends"

Oh and back to the point about the names he's called Sam, she has told him numerous times she's not comfortable with the sexual names he calls her yet he carries on doing it anyway, that's disrespectful. Girlfriends who call eachother "slut" or whatever I'm sure know eachothers form and know there friends are in on the banter. generally speaking men friends don't go round calling their girlfriends sluts affectionately...in my experience anyway

Jim was sexist alright, going on about his wife having to iron his shirts and s**t like that. I think Marc is sexist in a different way in that he speaks to women in more of a derogatory way then he would men so therefore he treats women worse than men

Hmm. I don't see that as sexist, possibly because I have so many mates who talk a bit like marc and I know for a fact they don't think they are better than women or anything like that, they just have filthy ****ing mouths  Infact thinking about it, this may also be why I don't find most of the things he says offensive. Living and drinking in Newcastle kinda toughens you up to stuff like that :S

White male praised for saying derogatory things to females, and gets away with it because it is "banter".

Harmless black female, who also happens to be a lesbian says pussy a few times, and is vilified for it, evicted first, to deafening boos and verbal abuse.

Sexism, racism, and double standards doesn't even begin to cover it.

Not quite. I don't find him sexist, it MAY be because I'm used to comments such as his..I don't know

A good example of how you can actually have an opinion on if someone is racist/sexist...it emily in bb8. Some swear she is racist for using the N word, other swear she isn't.

Making jokes about women doesn't automatically mean 'sexism' !

Making jokes about race doesn't automatically mean 'racism'.

There is too much knee-jerk 'burn the witch' response whenever anyone makes any kind of racial/sexual joke these days.

Swear words are offensive. Do you want them all banned?

How about adjectives like 'lazy' or 'smelly'. They may cause offense too.

How about we ban everything that isn't happy and then we can all live like it's a 24hr new year's eve! Won't that be great?!!!!!!!!

I'm not saying he didn't read the room wrong when he said the STI joke, only that it wasn't sexist.

And let's be honest here. Mark is charming. Jade said it when he came in, that he'll seduce them with his charm and with the exception of Harry he's done pretty much that. The housemates are pretty much in universal agreement that they don't like the things he says but they still mostly say that ultimately they like him. That's charm in action. His charm doesn't work on everyone but there's a difference "I don't find him charming" and "He's not charming". The lad has charm and charisma, it's plain as day.
