My copy has been dispatched! :D
Apparently, don't use the default Sarah Ryder, a lot of the animation issues seen are mostly down to her face specifically.

I have to admit I'm sort of concerned about some of the voice acting I'm hearing though :umm2:. Bad animation / character models etc. I can handle, but bad voice acting will grate.

I had it pre-ordered till a few days ago, I didn't really want to pay full price for what looked like a buggy incomplete game. I'll pick it up when it's on sale.

Been playing all today, I've actually really enjoyed it, it's very Mass Effect-y still, I'm still in very early parts of the game too, also, I used a custom character and the facial animations have been absolutely fine.

I haven't heard any reports of it being incomplete narrative wise at least... there aren't missing chunks of story / sudden jumps in the story or anything like that and it seems to have plenty of content. Incomplete in the sense that (from what I've seen, anyway) a lot of the animation is buggy and some of the dialogue seems like a "rough draft", yes. A lot of reviews pointing out that plenty of the voice acting is fine but then some of it is completely abysmal. Suggests to me that they've skipped a bit of quality testing / re-recording lines, to me.

It definitely feels like a full on Mass Effect game, I've spent around 7 hours in the game and just completed the second planet's main story. Honestly the animation/voice acting is nothing we haven't seen in Mass Effects 1-3. My only real complaint is the character creator isn't too good.

True, I guess the issue is that Mass Effect 1 was 10 years ago, and Mass Effect 3 was 5 years ago. They're up to scratch with games that are firmly PS3/360 era... but have really fallen behind in terms of current games, which is a bit odd for a highly anticipated AAA game I guess?
I'll still play Andromeda of course, I don't know that I'm willing to pay full release price though.

True, though, I feel people comparing ME's facial animation to Witcher 3's is dumb, given that Mass Effect's characters are customisable, which means that they can't do minute details like in other games, same goes for Fallout, which also has dodgy (and very stilted) animations. The game more than makes up for it in other departments, the combat is so much better than it used to be, the jump jet was a great addition.

I'm about 40 hours in now, and the game has really started to open up, its starting to feel very Mass Effect-y.

Very excited to eventually get this. Might wait until it drops below the 40 quid mark though, I've got a couple to tide me over in the wait

I've also still not finished FFXV and have just started on Horizon . And I want Nier: Automata. At this rate I think I can pencil Andromeda some time around 2021?

Finished it today! I enjoyed it just as much as the rest, if I had to compare it with another ME game, I'd say it's most like ME1 it lays the ground work for the next games.

I quite enjoyed the Game, I think it's better than 3 but weaker than 1 & 2.
I quite enjoyed Drack, Jaal, and Peebee as characters, the only character that I wasn't overly keen on was Cora.

The major difference is the eyes, but of course that's the most important part of making a CG human look "alive" rather than like a talking mannequin. Have they patched this? Patch out already or upcoming? I bought on PC a couple of days ago but haven't gotten around to playing yet, will hold off if it's an upcoming patch.

Hmm seems to be patched. Also;
"the ability to skip the autopilot sequences"
That seemed to be the other biggest complaint people had. Well played Bioware...

I got it from a dodgy codes site for PC games for £29 :joker:. Hit and miss for if these codes work but PayPal will always reverse the charge instantly if you go via them and say it didn't work. This one worked fine so, all good.

They've made some improvements to general animations, they're gonna continue doing it.

It seems odd that they've mamaged to make such vast improvements in such a short space of time, that weren't picked up in quality control before release? I usually assume that such glaring things were deemed too difficult to solve / not possible to sort quickly. I suspect they must have lumped some money on this and gotten some new animation artists in to sort it out. Or EA has poached some in from other studios temporarily. I wouldn't want to be whoever was in charge initially :umm2:.

I'm betting they got the ME1-3 studio in to lend a hand, apparently the main problem with the old faces, was the eyes, which were sort of just a texture, where as Frostbite has some tech to actually do eyes in a much better way.

The animation, expression and even the camera angles are completely changed. I'm baffled as to what has actually gone wrong first time round. Maybe they accidentally released beta code from a year ago? Someone found a folder on their computer and was like "OMG err this was the animation build that was supposed to be in place at release". Like it seems like too much of a difference to have been pulled off in a couple of weeks??

bit upset that the male Ryder can't romance Kosta, not gonna lie. He can stay on his sofa, he isn't being in my squad any longer :inamood:

I hear they're expanding the character creation pretty soon, the current one isn't too great.

Whilst I think it's fair to say this is the worst game of the series in terms of writing, plot, etc, I do think it's getting pretty unfairly panned. I guess I'm too much of a fanboy to find it still gripping, though. I think the characters are fine but the dialogue's a little lacking. And buggy gameplay...idk it makes Fallout charming so I kinda overlook it. Only had one moment where I was stuck in some rocks that actually frustrated me
Idk I'd still give it an 8/10... it's keeping me entertained longer than most games I buy.

I managed to make an OK looking Ryder (her mouth is a little high up in some cutscenes but I couldn't be bothered restarting AGAIN) and I'm quite enjoying it. Game play is improved, over arching plot seems to be OK. Characters... I'm not sure yet. There's nothing WRONG with them by mist games standards, but the problem is that ME1 and 2 had such iconic and well developed squad mates and other secondary characters (Joker etc) that them being just OK is a misfire. The new characters in 3 were pretty much cardboard too BUT there were still the old faces from the first two at least to carry it. I literally am struggling to even remember their names in Andromeda :joker:.
But yeah I think it's a decent game, and wouldn't be panned as a standalone title... It's just that it isn't quite measuring up to the highlights of the original trilogy. Another example... The music. It's competent, but forgettable sci-fi "stuff". The music of the original trilogy will be with me forever .
