Jade blamed for fall in Celebrity Big Brother ratings

Ratings for Celebrity Big Brother have dropped by more than half since the show began.

The launch show last Wednesday had an average of 7.1 million viewers - but by last night the audience had fallen to 3.2 million.

Channel 4 said the viewing figures were consistent with last year's series and there were no concerns about falling ratings.

But some viewers have complained that bringing Jade Goody and her family into the house has backfired.

Her arrival caused two of the show's more interesting contestants - singer Donny Tourette and film-maker Ken Russell - to quit.

Tourette scaled the Big Brother fence in protest at being told to become Goody's "servant" for the latest task.

Russell walked out after also taking umbrage with the task, informing Goody she was "slightly demented".

The ratings hit a low of 2.8 million on Saturday.

A Channel 4 spokesman said: "Saturday is traditionally a low day for ratings.

"After five days, the average for this series is 4.7 million. Last year's series average was 4.8 million so there is barely any difference.

"Ratings always go down from the launch show, it's normal for Celebrity Big Brother and regular Big Brother.

"There is still huge interest in the show and it is doing as well as the last series."

The housemates have passed their masters and servants task, which involved seven of the group waiting hand and foot on the Goody family.

They were rewarded with a £336 (€500) luxury shopping budget and will tuck into a takeaway tonight.

Meanwhile, Jade's mum Jackiey has proved herself to be every bit as bright as her daughter.

Discussing her recent laser eye surgery, she boasted that she now has "20/24 vision".

Nah. I think the fall in ratings is normal. Last weeks launch show figures were exceptional, as I recall.

I dont get this? It says that Jade is being blamed for lower rateings but then in the aricle it says that there isnt much diffrence at all.

CBB4 was always gonna be a difficult BB to follow anyway.

I doubt that many people have stopped watching to be honest, it's an addictive show and no matter how much people complain at the end of the day they will probably still tune in.

if jade came in alone, the story would be different! get the family out!

I think what is often forgotten, and probably has been by Endemolin this case, is that Jade was never all that popular in Big Brother originally. She came fourth - last out of the finalists - and beaten by Alex, Jonny and Kate.

The Jade Goody phenomenon is essentially a creation by the PR industry.
