I haven't seen it yet, what is it with this resigning malarky when our politicians don't win things?

There is a movement in the Labour party that if the leader is not cutting the mustard within 3 years, they have to face a leadership contest.
Rather than just going on to an inevitable defeat probably.

Labour is not like the Conservatives,who have few worries as to getting rid of leaders they no longer want,Labour tends to suffer in silence more.

The reason for resigning,if failing to make any impact,within 3 years is to allow a new leader to have time to get a message across.

I don't agree with the idea but can see its merits,possibly a change of leader from Gordon brown to another in 2009, may have seen Labour do better in 2010.
A wide view now is, that the same should have taken place in 2013/4 with a change from Ed Miliband too for the May election.

How do you measure it however, Labour did pretty good in the Council elections in 2014, and the European elections too.
As to the polling,well poll after poll and the average of all polls for over 2 months had the parties neck and neck, when in the end the Conservatives were 6% ahead of Labour on the day of voting.
How you could measure accurately what may happen is very questionable.

It is quite a thing for Liz Kendall to have said however, she is now tied to her words now, so if elected she really has to do not only very good but brilliantly.

This term pisses me off soooo much. I would much rather a rich person that cares for the poor, than one who just sits around on wads of clash declaring welfare cuts. If you have been misled by this tory propaganda or are perpetuating it on purpose, then that is idiotic.

In terms of the show tonight:

- The presenter was awful, interrupted them all on several occasions and accused all of them of being dishonest in some shape or form.

- Liz Kendall has pretty much confirmed for me that if she were elected as leader, then my vote would go to the greens. Easily.

- Jeremy Corwyn is amazing and I underestimated how well he would do tonight, I really hope he manages to win. Andy Burnham is a close second, and Yvette Cooper also showed potential. The only thing I didn't like was that the latter two did pander to the UKIP-view on immigration, but at least they didn't literally imitate policies like Kendall did.

The Tories have divisions to some extent, primarily over Europe, but it feels more like differences over degrees in the Tory party whereas the Labour party is genuinely unsure over which direction to head and is almost starting from zero. Whoever is leader has a very difficult task

I am leaning to Andy Burnham, I wanted him in 2010 really and I didn't support Labour then.

However I have decided to wait to hear them all over the next few months before deciding who gets my vote.
For the Deputy leader that is an easy one for me but the leader needs very careful consideration.

I feel Yvette Cooper, why isn't she called Balls,has the fight in here but may be tarnished from the past too like Andy.

I like Liz Kendall but as said on another thread,when she talks to you, she comes across as condescending,I don't think voters will warm to that.

He likely won't get the deputy leadership but he has for 5 elections now managed to hold onto his 'Exeter' seat and in May increased his majority there too.
A rare sight of a Labour MP who can connect with the far South and not only win there but hold the seat too.
It seems he has the appeal many others haven't.

I really like Laura and she was great and really insightful on election night but from what I caught of this she was annoying me, maybe the format of the show was a bit rushed but they weren't even being allowed to speak for longer than 20 seconds without her interrupting. Disappointing.

I missed the first 20 minutes cause I forgot so I'll be catching up in a bit. Corbyn as impressive in person as he has been in the bits I've read about him. Cannot stand Kendall, and thought the 'it's about the country' dig at Andy at the end was really unnecessary. Talking of Andy, he comes across as a down to earth guy and was probably my second favourite of the candidates, he made a lot of reasonable points. Liked Yvette at times too.

May update this when I've caught up

That's true, the South West has always been difficult territory for Labour so it says a lot for Bradshaw that he's managed to hold that seat ever since his election
