Previously Joel occasionally said something to Marc but never really took him on.

Then he lay there several times and said nothing as Marc terribly abused some beside him,now surrendered

went off to just mainly spend time with Helen and Marc showing completely no thought for anyone else being abused by them.

Shows the kind of person he is,I think.

By the end of this show you could tell he was looking for ways to turn on Danny, i loved him to begin with but sadly he's just another sheep.

be·tray
bəˈtrā/
verb
verb: betray; 3rd person present: betrays; past tense: betrayed; past participle: betrayed; gerund or present participle: betraying

1.
expose (one's country, a group, or a person) to danger by treacherously giving information to an enemy.

Your topic is a bit absurd...

perhaps as he has gotten to know them better he has come to appreciate marc honesty more the contrived behavior of the others.

I cannot think anything of it as I don't believe or accept he has done so.

He is just a fair and balanced individual in my view who doesn't set out to offend anyone or particularly get caught up in others disputes.
Forming his own opinion of people as to how they treat him and not being influenced by others who want to control and dictate who he or indeed others, can and should talk to or be with.

The problem people in there are Jack and Danny, who want to control what others do,and who probably see people who have been usually around them, as their own possessions.

I think Joel's explanation of wanting to spend time with people who would only be in the house for a week was fair comment. I did not feel he was up there backsides.

What I don't like about the bloke is that there appears to be no spontaneity even the most innocent question causes him to carefully consider all options before responding.

This might be a true reflection of the way he is but sometimes I wonder. ?

I like Joel too Joey, one reason being he is his own man and is not influenced by the pack.

why is it unfaithful to to talk to and be pleasant with another housemate? What trust has he broken? Why does the cliche have an expectation that he not socialize with Marc? What is disloyal about it?

by any definition of betray your title is absurd
